Company activities and impact

The company runs a cultural community organisation predominantly in the South East but also looks outside the region to collaborate with other groups with similar alliances. Whistlestop Arts aims to;- Develop and deliver creative programmes that are considerate of the environment and strive to have a positive impact on the natural world.- Promote community engagement to individuals and groups in a bid to encourage more involvement in cultural activity. This may include demonstrations, talks and workshops.- Inspire individuals who may not have previously engaged with cultural activity, particularly those on low incomes.- Create, explore and celebrate what members do well to a wider audience.Recent and current projects include;Horsham District Mystery Trails - commissioned by Horsham District Council, funded by the European Regional Development FundThe project supports Horsham District Council to meet the aims of the Welcome Back Fund, in rebuilding people’s relationships with the town centres and increasing footfall including:Restructuring – building the capacity and partnerships to deliver changeRepositioning – Using data to develop an inspiring visionRebranding – Establishing an identity and sense of placeReinventing – activating and animating places with diverse activitiesWhistlestop Arts have created, promoted and managed a set of free outdoor ‘escape room’ trail games in seven town centres within the Horsham District. These immersive and exciting trails stand alone if only undertaking one trail but also encourage participants to take part in more than one, engaging in high streets across the District. They will have wide appeal and aim to connect people with place, commerce and community. Giving residents and visitors alike a repeatable experience, with new discoveries each time, drawing them back to each town and across the wider areas of Horsham District and the County. Virtual Day Trips - Horsham Park – funded by Sussex Community Foundation, in partnership with Friends of Horsham Park and Age UK, West Sussex, Brighton & HoveWhistlestop Arts secured Covid-19 recovery funding from Sussex Community Foundation which enabled us to research, design and create a Virtual Day Trip focusing on Horsham Park. The main aim is to highlight Covid-19 safe spaces, accessible to all, that encourage residents and visitors to explore Horsham Park and the wider area.The day trip sessions are based around a bespoke film that includes interviews with a wide variety of people connected to the Park. The sessions were delivered to small groups of people in Covid-19 safe venues to give participants an immersive experience that increases confidence and connects them to their communities. Other groups and residential homes can access our free resources and run sessions in their own settings.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are the management committee, programme partners, fund providers and participants.The directors of the company have lived and worked in the area for a number of years and have developed past and current projects using their experience of working with vulnerable communities. Each project has an evaluation strand where participants, stakeholders and future partners can share their experiences to help inform future activity. The company was founded after consultation with a group of visually impaired women struggling due to the impact of the pandemic. This group continues to engage with activities and feedback to the directors their experiences.

Directors' remuneration

Remuneration received during the year was for project fees totaling £9,140 per director.
