COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PROJECTFIVEK CIC

Company Number: 12828137 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2021

Company activities and impact

Projectfivek was established in December 2020 as a Community interest Company (CIC). The Company provides practical and on-going support for families who face day to day financial challenges with the assistance of supermarket vouchers, meal kits and essential hygiene packages. During the last financial year, the Company has been working with two schools in the local community. Projectfivek responded to the financial challenges faced by some of the families who were struggling due to the Covid pandemic and the subsequent cost of living crisis. The company was able to help 30 families in two schools with supermarket food vouchers. The food vouchers have provided a vital practical support for the families who are facing increased energy and food costs. The vouchers have been a lifeline to the families and has meant they have food to eat at a time when money has been especially short. This in turn has had a positive impact on the children who attend the schools concerned and enables them to focus on learning. Teachers have reported that the children of the families the company has supported, have shown improved attendance and learning. During the year the Company in collaboration with the local council and interfaith organisations were part of a Hot Food Project. Projectfivek with the help of local volunteers led the project to cook weekly hot meals for 11 families. The duration of the project was for 12 weeks. The company delivered 528 meals over the period. Without exception the families gave the company positive feedback for the hot meals delivered to their homes. They reported that they were nutritious, portions were generous and tasty. The families appreciated the support of the meals as they were struggling to feed their children due to the financial challenges that they were facing.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the schools, families, local council, and interfaith organisations. The company initially contacted the schools at the commencement of the pandemic. The schools identified that there were families who needed support to feed their children. The schools suggested food parcels a way to alleviate the poverty experienced by some of the families. The company took this on board and after further consideration, it felt that the families would be given food vouchers. A questionnaire was sent to all families after they had received the vouchers. The feedback from the survey was that the vouchers gave families flexibility to shop according to preferences, the vouchers had made a real difference to the families struggling to put food on the table. The vouchers also helped families to make their limited finances stretch to buy the extra e.g. clothes, treats etc for their children.
