A Good Thing is a digital platform that enables businesses to donate unwanted items to local charities instead of sending to landfill.During the financial year 2020-21 the platform was developed and a pilot was launched in the Thames Valley region in April 2021.At the end of 2021 the platform had 40 businesses and 84 charities registered, and 26 donations had been made. The donations have the dual benefit of assisting the charities with their causes and preventing unnecessary waste going to landfill. A Good Thing has not yet quantified the impact in financial or carbon terms, but examples of the donations made are:- A global engineering firm donating audio-visual equipment to a local charity providing education for children with sensory motor disorders.- A 'Not on the High Street' seller donating new baby blankets to a charity providing support to new mothers.- An IT service provider donating unwanted desks to a charity providing better lives for many living in Sierra Leone.
