Additional information

Review of the OperationsThe BCA continues to promote and facilitate Commonwealth related initiatives in Greater Birmingham through its three sector focus groups of Trade and Business, Education and the Diaspora. Where there is benefit in doing so, these three groups engage with each other to Page 3their mutual benefit. Further, effort is always made to engage/partner/collaborate with other like-minded organisations to achieve each other’s commonwealth related objectives and desired outcomes. The BCA were pleased to have been successful in winning a tender put out early 2022 by Birmingham City Council to organise a two-day Food and drink worldwide sustainability/security event coupled with the launch of the cities ‘Food Charter’ as part of the Commonwealth Games 2022 trade and tourism programme. The BCA’s Education Focus Group remained relatively inactive during the Covid Pandemic reengaging early 2023 and with greater participation by universities and their students. The engagement with students has added a broader dimension to the group’s agenda. The Communities Focus Group continues to assist in organising an annual Commonwealth Day event held at the Birmingham register office when a number of commonwealth citizens are given UK citizenship. The group was re-organised in the summer of 2022 with its own committee elected from the BCA’s membership database. The committee is in the process of formulating its objectives. The BCA as a whole organises an annual Commonwealth Day service which in March 2022 was held at St Philips Cathedral, Birmingham city centre followed in the evening by its Commonwealth Day dinner at The Grand Hotel, Birmingham. The later was a very successful event celebrating the then forthcoming commonwealth games being held in the city.
