The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives of the charity, principal activities and organisation of our work
The charity's objects and its principal activities are:

a) To assist the poor in Bosnia and Rwanda, who have no adequate shelter or house or flat or other suitable dwelling in which to live, to be properly and permanently housed and to do all things ancillary to that objective.

b) To assist those who are poor in Bosnia and Rwanda from becoming poorer as well as preventing those who are at risk of being poor from becoming poor.

c) To assist the poor in Bosnia and Rwanda with their formal education through schools and universities, and less formal education, such as that provided in the community.

d) To provide funding to the poor in Bosnia and Rwanda for both physical and mental health, and the prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering.

The charity is organised so that the trustees meet regularly to manage its affairs.

Achievements, performance and significant activities
HAB & RWANDA, continues to be an inspired Charity, set up to give hope, comfort, solace, and financial support, when necessary, to the poor displaced Bosnian Refugees, and now also to the Rwandan victims of the Genocide. Both countries have suffered tremendous loss and grief after deadly internal conflicts, leaving behind much poverty and suffering. Our efforts and prayers for them continue to help and restore peace. With all the difficulties in the world today God still provides for our needs and dreams

Our work, as always, gives as much support as necessary to both countries. Sometimes it is encouragement through e-mails, phone calls, messages, visits etc. At other times support comes by way of donations. In Rwanda we are delighted to say that the Clinic for Intestinal Diseases, renamed St. Gerald's Clinic, is now officially licensed and open to receive patients. Dr. Oswald has reported that ten patients turned up on the first day of opening, 1st February 2023. He gives thanks and glory to God for this and is forever grateful to Housing Aid Bosnia and Rwanda Charity for enabling this miracle. We wish them every blessing.

Regarding the Bosnia Mission, we continue to provide ongoing support to create greater self-sufficiency, as our work in this area continues to move towards a very happy conclusion, though the end is not yet. Additional funding has been donated to help former refugees with self-employment as there are limited jobs in the area and life can be very difficult. Mental health is a real concern and some young people, with no job opportunities, have taken their own lives out of despair. Our charity is a light for them and anything we can do is greatly appreciated. This year, we bought a flat in Croatia for a young couple without a home in Bosnia. We managed to help them buy a lovely two bedroomed flat near the sea, recommended by the medical profession, as the wife has been seriously ill and living by the sea will aid her health. It all happened quite miraculously, and a substantial price reduction was negotiated before completion. Another couple, who were forced to leave Bosnia to gain meaningful employment, are now able to return home and live in Capljina, in the house we initially provided for them. We would like to give them £30,000 to help re-locate back and set up the same type of work, motor mechanics, at home. This could be very successful as their house is well suited to this, having a large garage and enough space for an office. A second couple, again forced to leave, are keen to come back and live in their own house that we built for them in Metkovic, and we would like to support them in setting up a small cafe, specialising in gluten free options, in Metkovic. To facilitate this, we would like to give them £30,000 as a start-up working capital donation, and indeed are nearly there with this.

We are truly grateful to all our benefactors, both large and small donations, and for the monthly standing orders. Without any of this we would be powerless to help.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Public benefit
The trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty under section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The Statement of Financial Activities shows excess income over expenditure for the period ended 31st March 2023 of £6,073 (2022:£104,602 expenditure surplus). Accumulated reserves total is £10,575 at the balance sheet date (2022: £4,502).

Investment policy and objectives
The trustees, having regard to the liquidity requirements of Housing Aid Bosnia & Rwanda, have kept available funds in an interest bearing deposit account.

FUTURE PLANS
Our project is nearing its end now yet God is still pointing the way for what He wants done by us. We are privileged and at times overwhelmed by His blessings. Our sincere thanks is extended to all benefactors, volunteers and our trustees who have helped us free of charge. Indeed everyone, with the exception of our auditors, provide their services free and we feel very blessed. Of course, funds permitting, we would like to continue helping both communities in Bosnia and Rwanda financially, until they get on their feet. Right now, they are still in need of funds to maintain their promising start, so I beg you to help us to help them to do this. I know we can count on your love and financial help, and our prayers for them will be answered. God has never let us down yet for our Charity and neither have you. To God be the glory.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.

Charity constitution
The Charity is constituted as a company limited by guarantee, and is therefore governed by its memorandum and articles of association. It is a registered charity with the Charity Commission, number SC030136. Trustees who served during the year are set out in page 1.

Limited liability of members
Every member of the company undertakes to contribute to the assets of the company such amounts as may be required (not exceeding £1), in the event of the same being wound up while he/she is a member, or within one year after he/she ceases to be a member, for the payment of the debts and liabilities contracted before membership ceases.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
The management of the charity is the responsibility of the trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the trust deed.

Induction and training of new trustees
New Trustees undergo an orientation process to brief them on their legal obligations under the Charity law, the Charity's governing documents and decision making process. Trustees are encouraged to attend appropriate training events which will assist them in carrying out their role.

Key management remuneration
The directors consider the board of directors, who are the charity's trustees, comprise the key management personnel of the charity in charge of directing and controlling, running and operating the charity on a day to day basis. All directors give of their time freely and no director received remuneration or other expenses during the year. The charity has no other employees.

Risk management
The trustees confirm any major risk that the charity is, or could be exposed to, are reviewed and systems and procedures established to manage any such risk.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF
HOUSING AID BOSNIA & RWANDA

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023 set out on pages six to twelve.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention :

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 31 March 2023.


The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2023 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.


The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for
(a)ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and
(b)preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

The Trustees confirm that at the time of approving the financial statements, there is a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. In arriving at this conclusion, the Trustees have taken account of current and anticipated financial performance in the current economic conditions, and the Charity's reserves position. For this reason, the going concern basis continues to be adopted in the preparation of the Charity's financial statements.

The trustees have considered going concern and closely monitor expenditure. As most payments made are to refugees, they can only pay out when donations are received. The trustees are actively seeking further donations to be able to support the refugees as much as possible.

Financial reporting standard 102 - reduced disclosure exemptions
The charitable company has taken advantage of the following disclosure exemptions in preparing these financial statements, as permitted by FRS 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland':

the requirements of Section 7 Statement of Cash Flows.

Income
Donations and legacies
Donations and legacies are included in the year in which they are receivable, which is when the charity becomes entitled to the resource with reasonable certainty having met all the conditions for its receipt and it can be measured reliably.

Investment income
Investment income is accounted for in the period in which the charity is entitled to receipt.

Expenditure
Expenditure is included on an accruals basis. Expenditure on charitable activities comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both cost that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them. Administration costs are those costs incurred in providing a central resource to manage the office of the charity on a day to day basis together with any legal and professional costs, including accountants' fees.

Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Foreign exchange
Assets and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies are translated at the rate of exchange ruling at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are recorded at the rate ruling at the date of transaction. All differences are taken to the Statement of Financial Activities.
