COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

GLOBAL RISE CIC

Company Number: 07873610 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2022

Company activities and impact

Global Rise continued to serve the community in Kingston and South West London during the financial year 2021/22. We have continued our main activities encouraging integration and community engagement through our weekly community cafe. We have served over a thousand visitors in the past year. We have facilitated engagement between the community and the public and private sectors. We have also provided post-Covid help and support for community members and their families. Utilising the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) methodology we have created two social enterprises with members from the community. One enterprise was initiated by migrant and refugee ladies that worked with us to establish a community cleaning business that can help individuals with employment and training as well provide an affordable cleaning service to households in the community. The other was established with some of our recent graduates that we have been supporting for the past 5/6 years during their academic journey through our Community Access to Education project. The students graduated from engineering degrees from multiple UK universities and they have now established Global Decor, a construction and decoration business that will allow them to pursue their engineering careers and create opportunities for others in the community. We are aiming to roll out our ABCD programme in the following year to encourage more members of the community to come together and create meaningful and beneficial projects for the community to tackle the cost of living crisis and other community problems.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are those who are involved in Community development, engagement and integration as well as those who work with them. Of specific significance are the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames (Kingston council), NHS Kingston and Kingston CCG, Metropolitan Police Kingston BOCU, the London Probation Service, Jobcentre Plus, Kingston University Health Watch Kingston and Kingston Independent Network of Creatives (KING). Global Rise's activities stem from consultation with the people who benefit from the company's work. Global Rise maintains a series of consultative events using a mixture of co-production and an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach to not only encourage the community to define what would help them sustain recovery and improve quality of lives, but also allow them to build skills toward volunteering and helping deliver community activities.
