2 Statement of compliance

These
financial statements
have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102 Section 1A, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the UK and Republic of Ireland'.

3 Accounting policies

Basis of preparation

The
financial statements
have been prepared on the historical cost basis, as modified by the revaluation of certain assets.
The
financial statements
are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the company.

Consolidation

The entity has taken advantage of the option not to prepare consolidated
financial statements
contained in Section 398 of the Companies Act 2006 on the basis that the entity and its subsidiary undertakings comprise a small group.

Turnover

Turnover represents subscriptions receivable in respect of the period, exclusive of value added tax.

Investments

Investments comprise the 1001 Employer Shares in the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme Trustees Limited. The shares were acquired at nil cost.
At 31 December 2022, the authorised and issued share capital of the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme Trustees Limited was 2001 ordinary 1p shares comprised of 1001 Employer Shares held by the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme Co-ordinator Limited, and 1000 Union shares, being 500 shares held by NUM COSA, 250 shares held by the National Union of Mineworkers, and 250 shares held by Prospect, a national union representing engineers, managers and scientists in public and private sectors. The shares carry no rights to receive dividends and rank pari passu in all other rights.
At 31 December 2021, the authorised and issued share capital of the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme Trustees Limited was 2001 ordinary 1p shares comprised of 1001 Employer Shares held by the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme Co-ordinator Limited, and 1000 Non-Employer Shares held on behalf of the four participating unions. The Employer Shares and Non-Employer Shares are separate classes. The shares carry no rights to receive dividends and rank pari passu in all other rights.

4 Limited by guarantee

The reconciliation of movements in shareholders' funds and the split between equity and non-equity shares is not applicable for this company as it is a company limited by guarantee.
The maximum liability of each member is £1.
At 31 December 2022, the number of employer sections with employee members within the Industry-Wide Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme was 47 (2021: 47).
