Forgiving has continued to provide, mentoring/ support services to underrepresented young people both inside and outside of the classroom. The FORgiving team works across a variety of settings. We provide mentoring support to young people between the ages of 12 – 18. Our youth led interventions are delivered in schools, pupil referral units, across the prison and probation service, and as part of our detached youth work services. We work to ensure that at least 50% of the young people that we support are from either racially or economically marginalized communities. FORgiving places trauma informed practices at the heart of our youth support services. This allows young people to not only identify but address some of the reasoning behind at times detrimental decision making. FORgivings vision is to support at least twenty thousand young people to make transformational decisions about their lives by 2028. Whether that be through training, education or employment opportunities. In the last 12 months FORgiving has supported over 300 young people to make transformational decisions about their life. We have supported over 200 young prepare for life following their time in custody.
FORgiving gathers feedback from not only the young people that we serve but their parents and guardians. We have a segment of our programme that specifically focuses on young people and their relationship with their parents. Parents are invited to take part in this segment, to promote continuity both inside and outside of the classroom. As part of this segment surveys, interviews and focus groups are completed to gain an insight into their experiences and how useful or unhelpful the programme has been. This allows the Forgiving team to continue to develop our service offering, and ensure we are working with our young peoples best interests in mind. Our young people’s voices are instrumental to our delivery, and feedback from questionnaires and surveys have allowed FORgiving to take a unique approach to our programmes. Our in-school interventions are youth led. Which not only helps our young people to nurture key skills, but encourages participant engagement, whilst educating, inspiring and motivating young people within the process. FORgiving is extremely proud of the influence that our young people have had on our services, and how engaged they are in what we do. Their input has allowed us to build initiatives that are critical within this climate. For example, we are currently in the process of arranging an annual youth convention, in collaboration with the West Midlands Combined Authority. An event that provides the opportunity to connect young people with the support systems available to them, but also creates a space for our youth community to express themselves through music, dance, art and poetry. FORgiving is on the ground with our young people, whether that be through our youth social action initiatives, or as part of our detached youth-work services. Giving us a unique competitive advantage.
