ADOPTEE FUTURES CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 July 2023

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 July 2023

Principal activities of the company

Adoptee Futures is a grassroots organisation run by individuals with lived experience of Adoption. It’s aim is to help reclaim the adoption narrative, reframe the world’s view on Adoption and help Adult adoptees heal their trauma. During the financial year 2021-2022 the organisations activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Adoptees have been able to access support groups run by other adoptees with a trauma informed mindset. They have been able to discuss & learn more about their trauma. This has led to many of them saying that they feel more confident, peaceful & held. One community member has stated that they believe Adoptee Futures “is on of the reasons I am still here” when referring to their mental health. Black & queer Adoptees have been able to find a safe space where they can explore the intersections of their personalities without harm or backlash. Many adoptees have commented that in previous spaces it felt like their stories were lost, but with the support of Adoptee Futures they feel held. Adoptees have been able to get together in a space that isn’t always so heavy. Through our research, we found that fun and enjoyment should play a part but in healing. Our community has found that being together and spending time with others with the same experiences but not always discussing serious situations, has helped them feel more at ease with themselves.
