The Young Blood Theatre Company CIC key aim is to empower children and young people through offering high quality creative learning opportunities and to give every child and young person a new creative skill set, energy and confidence for their future. Our previous work has been focused within local Bristol schools. We have just completed the Young Blood theatre online festival project which was funded by the Arts Council working with four local secondary schools and 2 primary schools including Oasis Brislington. This project aim was to celebrate creativity within our schools. Each school was asked to create a short piece of film/theatre about they feel about the world. The festivals prior to Covid were performed at the Bristol Old Vic but this year, to keep everyone safe we invited a professional film crew into each school to film their pieces. The pieces were edited into a festival film and premiered on youtube for an audience of schools, family and friends to celebrate their work. The Young Blood Online Theatre Festival 2022 - 6.30pm premiere - YouTubeThis project captures how young people feel about the world we currently live in and we are in the process of using this as a starting point for discussion within local schools. Our aim for this project was to create a local youth theatre that was accessible financially and creatively for all taking part. Knowing the lack of local community spaces for young people to go to in the area, We wanted to create a safe creative space where young people can come together, have fun, play,, create, develop new creative and performance skills, make new friends and develop transferable skills for the future. The Young Blood Youth Theatre started in September and was free for all taking part. We ran a year 4,5,6 group and a year 7-9 theatre group, both sessions lasting an hour and a half. Our focus was to work with children and young people from the Brislington, St. Anne’s and Broomhill area as it falls in the category of the 10% most deprived areas in the UK. The project has shown a clear improvement of confidence within the group, the y have come together and made new friends, had fun and developed new creative skills which was a key aim. This project has also increased participation of the arts for this area and has allowed the local community to come together as an audience and celebrate the young people’s creative work. Our aim is to build new and stronger relationships through this project and within the community for the future. Which we have succeeded in doing.
