2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements |
The company is dependent on the continuing support, both financial and management, of it's directors and shareholders, who have confirmed their intention to do so for the coming 12 months. |
Turnover |
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. |
Turnover represents the net invoice value of goods and services provided. |
Intangible assets |
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses. |
Patents and licences |
Patents and licences are amortised evenly over a period of 10 years. |
Computer software |
Website development costs are amortised evenly over a period of 10 years. |
Tangible fixed assets |
Tangible fixed assets are included at cost or valuation less depreciation and impairment. |
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over its estimated useful life. |
Computer Equipment | - | 20% straight line |
Plant & Machinery | - | 25% reducing balance |
Fixtures & Fittings | - | 25% reducing balance |
Motor Vehicles | - | 25% reducing balance |
Improvements to property - 10% straight line |
Impairment of assets |
At each reporting date assets are reviewed to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If there is an indication of possible impairment, the recoverable amount of any affected asset is estimated and compared with its carrying amount. If the estimated recoverable amount is lower, the carrying amount is reduced to its estimated recoverable amount, and an impairment loss is recognised immediately in the profit and loss. |
Where an impairment loss subsequently reverses, the carrying amount of each asset is increased to the revised estimate of its recoverable amount, to the extent that the increased carrying amount does not exceed the carrying amount that would have been determined (net of depreciation) had no impairment loss been recognised for the asset in prior years. A reversal of an impairment loss is recognised as income immediately. |
Stocks |
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. |

Financial instruments |
Trade and other debtors are initially recognised at the transaction price and thereafter stated at amortised cost using effective interest method, less impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts except where the effect of discounting would be immaterial. In such cases, the receivables are stated at cost less impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. |
Short term trade creditors are measured at transaction price. Financial liabilities that have no stated interest rate and are payable within one year shall be measured at the undiscounted amount due. |
Taxation |
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. |
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date. |
Deferred tax |
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date. |
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference. |
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. |
Foreign currencies |
Assets and liabilities in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rate of exchange ruling at the date of transaction. Exchange differences are taken into account in arriving at the operating result. |
Hire purchase and leasing commitments |
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of the lease. |
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits |
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate. |
