COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

CHARLBURY RIVERSIDE FESTIVAL CIC

Company Number: 13821255 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2022

Company activities and impact

Charlbury Riverside Festival is an annual festival held in the town, run entirely by volunteers to enable free access to all members of the public, with an emphasis on providing a platform for young and aspiring musicians from the local area to experience large, open air audiences. The festival has enabled the local community to come together for two days of the year in July, to experience a weekend of free entertainment, mainly through the three music stages put on, but also from the provision of a children’s area, a green field showcasing local crafts, as well as a busking stage for anyone to join in.Across the three stages, over 40 local acts were able to perform to audiences, with a maximum capacity of 2,000 attendees a day.We employed a professional security company, to ensure that from set-up to take-down, the site and its patrons as well as staff were taken care of. By being run by a dedicated team of volunteers, we hope to ensure that the festival can run year-on-year by using any profits from bar, programme and merchandise sales to fund the set-up costs of the following year. Given we are an outdoor festival with no entry fee, we are weather dependent upon patrons attending, and so we are actively looking for sponsorship as an additional funding stream to provide some financial future-proofing.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the residents of the town of Charlbury, as well as those of surrounding villages who may travel to the festival either as patrons or potentially as performers or volunteers. We hold regular meetings with the volunteers who help run the festival, as well as with stage managers to ensure everyone is happy with the arrangements for weekend. We also use social media channels for feedback and reviews of the weekend, which if possible, we act upon for future years. For instance, this year we received feedback for a gluten free and alcohol free option behind the bar, which we will pursue for next year’s festival.
