Leicester Musical Memory Box C.I.C is delighted to have completed a fifth year working with people affected by dementia. Whilst still feeling the effects of Covid lockdown we continue to build on our successes, strengthening relationships with peer organisations and offering regular groups around Leicestershire. We also have a small group of people attending and benefitting who live with other health issues IE brain injury, stroke and also have been bereaved. Our culturally specific group for the Asian community, ‘Geet Sangeet’, runs weekly face to face, and online. We are proud to have entered a three year partnership with Charnwood Arts and now have a regular English speaking group and Geet Sangeet group in the Charnwood district The Company’s fifth year of trading from financial year 2022 to 2023 have seen theCompany’s activities benefit the community in the following ways:Our online attendance has dramatically decreased and we will likely re-launch it to twice a month or similar for the small core group attending, and see how it goes.We have regular attendees at each group and face2face numbers are slowly increasing as dementia diagnosis rates increase, and we are able to network encouraging referrals. We receive feedback that carers need us more than ever for a regular activity to just get out of the house and experience the highly social side of our groups and receive peer support. Our relationship with an inner-city community church, the Unitarian Chapel continues and a dementia friendly Christmas Carol service is planned. Leicester Cathedral would like to work with us next year. This year we’ve already planned other Christmas services around the county. We have cultivated a relationship with Curve theatre and held a ‘Big Sing’ there in Dementia Action Week (May) together with Alzheimer’s Society, attracting over 130 people and great press. Our one2one sessions using Playlists for Life continue and are well received. Our annual project, ‘Hear and Now’ together with the Philharmonic Orchestra is planned for August2023 and another is planned for May 2024. We built on our relationships with local BBC radio and a local South Asian radio station to promote our aims and group services.
We work together with Charnwood Arts Registered Charity 1143163. We facilitate and deliver a twice monthly group for Charnwood Arts. They are happy to continue this arrangement with three years funding secured.
