COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

WASTE2TASTE C.I.C.

Company Number: 10852106 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 July 2023

Company activities and impact

Waste2Taste registered as a CIC on 21 May 2021. The company’s activities provide benefit to the local community, including homeless, vulnerably housed, and any other people experiencing food inequality. This includes people local to OX4, but also the wider Oxford community. Through our Community Cafe we have created a hub of support where people feel a sense of ownership and investment in their local area.We work in OX4 specifically to tackle both the immediate needs of critical food poverty in our area, as well as the more systemic food injustices. We believe that local organisations working collaboratively is the most informed, efficient and thorough way to address both of these aims. Our focus is on healthy, affordable and accessible food.Since April 2020 Waste2Taste as part of the OX4 Partnership have cooked and delivered over 30,000 free meals. Referrals for these come primarily from the local authority. In the 22-23 financial year we delivered 6 ten-week workshops to families and others suffering from food inequality in order to build confidence with food, nutrition and cooking in a professional setting. Since January 2022, we have also delivered monthly community meals, open to all as an opportunity to build community connections. We have a Kindness Menu and a Freezer of Love where users may ‘pay as you feel’ for healthy food cooked in-house. We offer volunteer placements, some of these are for those suffering from isolation, poor mental health and joblessness, and offer a pathway to employment opportunities. More details on OX4 Partnership’s impact are available on their website: https://www.ox4foodcrew.co.uk/our-impactIn May 2023, we moved premises to Shotover View. Shotover view is an Extra Care Housing premises in Oxford with a recently built catering kitchen and restaurant space. Waste2Taste offers low-cost meals to residents, in addition to welcoming the public. We also deliver specialized community meals to the residents as well, bringing them together to reduce isolation.

Consultation with stakeholders

Waste2Taste stakeholders comprise general users of our Community Cafe and catering service, attendees of our Health & Wellbeing Workshops, users of our volunteer and training programme and/or users who benefit from free or low-cost food within the cafe setting. We have had consultations with Shotover residents to find out how we can support them to be less isolated within their community. This included two meals with over 25 residents each in a complex with 54 units. Some of the residents were unable to attend as they have severe mobility issues so we are looking at ways to reach them. We support around 15 volunteers, and employ a Volunteer Coordinator to support them who aims for ongoing consultation with the volunteers. Volunteers are our lifeline for delivering the free meals as we no longer have funding for free meals, and they report back that volunteering with Waste2Taste brings significant personal benefits.
