COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PRIMAL RUNNERS CIC

Company Number: 09991000 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2023

Company activities and impact

Over this period Primal Runners provided free outdoor fitness sessions for refugees in Folkestone and Canterbury as well as for young people from disadvantaged communities, including inner city London. For many of the young people taking part, it was their first sight of the sea when they participated. For refugees, it has provided a lifeline in terms of mental as well as physical health. We know this from the regular feedback and thanks we gain from participants, sometimes months after, when they express how much they were struggling before they came to Primal Runners. We have worked with various different agencies, companies and charities such as Napier Friends; QPR In The Community Trust; Porchlight; Canterbury City Council and Kent Community Foundation. These organisations have provided referral pathways and support in terms of volunteer time and funding. We have managed to connect many participants to the wider running community when they move on to other parts of the country. Usually through the wide network of England Athletics affiliated clubs and the parkrun movement. This has helped prevent a lot of loneliness and isolation, especially for asylum seekers waiting for their claim to be assessed.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have worked with various different agencies, companies and charities such as Napier Friends; QPR In The Community Trust; Porchlight; Canterbury City Council and Kent Community Foundation. These organisations have provided referral pathways and support in terms of volunteer time and grant funding, and also fed into our director’s meetings based on ongoing consultations with stakeholders and beneficiaries. We ensure people with lived experience of the issues we’re trying address have the strongest voice in decision making.
