COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

THE PARENTING COLLECTIVE CIC

Company Number: 12815530 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2023

Company activities and impact

The Parenting Collective CIC sling library runs multiple support sessions across Greater Manchester. We provide support to families who wish to wear their baby in a carrier by providing vital safety information and knowledge on the benefits of babywearing. We offer ‘pay as you can’ sling hire for vulnerable and low-income families. We also offer infant feeding support as one of our consultants is a registered midwife and trained peer supporter and another is a Trained Breastfeeding counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers. We regularly provide information and support to families regarding the fourth trimester and general infant behaviour at a time when new families may be finding life quite difficult and isolating. During the past year, we have continued to run our free or donation Cake for Breakfast Club pre and postnatal Support group to local families to provide a secure, safe space for them to discuss their concerns and any challenges around their mental wellbeing and parenthood. At these sessions, we offer peer support and professional signposting to those who require to specialist services. We have started to offer Mama and Me Mindful Babywearing Dance Classes and Events. These classes are run by fully insured and trained instructors who run gentle movement and dance classes for parents/carers to wear their child and have a chance to feel part of the community whilst promoting physical wellbeing. Our socials and events open up to the wider public and are a way for us to fundraise and reinvest those funds into the company e.g. by purchasing more stock and subsiding classes for those on low incomes. We regularly ask for feedback, focus groups, and have an open-door policy. This feedback shows the positive impact our company is having on our community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders of The Parenting Collective CIC are represented by the company directors, including Kirsty Borritt, Lydia Tuakli-Munro, Katy Blundell, Michelle Brennan, Daniel Tuakli, and Abigail Tuakli. These individuals, residing in the Greater Manchester area, co-founded The Parenting Collective CIC based on their personal parenting experiences and observations within their local communities. Additionally, the CIC benefits from the expertise and experience of its two non-executive directors.Consultation with stakeholders is a fundamental aspect of our operational ethos. We actively seek input and feedback from our stakeholders, primarily our customers and volunteers, to ensure our services align with their needs and aspirations. We value their perspectives, as they are integral to shaping our community-centric initiatives. To gather feedback, we utilise feedback forms sent to families after their engagement with our services. These forms provide insights into the impact our company has on local communities. Moreover, we regularly request testimonials and reviews from our customers, which we share on social media platforms such as Facebook.Beyond customer feedback, we maintain a dedicated steering committee comprised of previous customers and volunteers. These committee members are trained babywearing peer supporters who have an intimate understanding of the needs within their respective communities. They reside in distinct areas across Greater Manchester, which provides diverse perspectives on local requirements. Their contributions greatly enrich our understanding of community needs.Furthermore, we engage our community in various ways to foster a sense of belonging and encourage open dialogue. Our sessions and groups are intentionally designed to facilitate discussion about what families feel is still needed in their communities. We have established mini-focus groups in each service area and maintain ongoing discussions with our steering boards. These steering boards consist of professionals who benefited from our services as parents, further enhancing our insight into community needs.Regular means of evaluation, including surveys, tally assessments, and feedback forms collected during sessions, help us gauge the preferences and demands of our customer base. The feedback is invaluable in guiding us to provide more of what the community desires. Our commitment to community involvement goes beyond feedback collection. Families positively impacted by our services are encouraged to participate in volunteering, training opportunities, and the organisation of social gatherings. Their regular input and involvement shape our services to better meet community needs. In summary, The Parenting Collective CIC values and actively seeks the input of its stakeholders to ensure that our services are community-driven and responsive. This collaborative approach promotes inclusivity, openness, and continuous improvement, aligning with our mission to address the cost of living crisis, combat parents' social isolation, and foster community support. The data and insights from our stakeholders are integral in shaping our strategies and initiatives, which have consistently demonstrated a positive impact on the well-being of the families and communities we serve.

Directors' remuneration

The core team of Directors Kirsty, Lydia and Michelle are paid £90 a month as a standard Directors’ fee and on occasion, we perform private consultations which we are paid as customers can afford. If the consultation does not result in a sling hire from the library 10% of the consultation fee is paid back to the library. The non-executive Directors Abigail and Daniel are not paid a Director's fee unless they carry out agreed consultation and advice to the company. This year their payment has been £1.00 (a bank account test fee).Director’s Expenses and MileageDirectors are paid 45p per mile for business-related mileage and agreed food and other travel amounts are reimbursed.
