For the year ended 31 January 2023, Several Seats services have touched the lives of 1250 women struggling with their mental health. Our mission is to champion, support and encourage ethnic minority women to share their stories and lived experiences and normalise conversations about mental health.Strategic PrioritiesWe have developed three key priorities that guide the work of Several Seats:Empower - we seek to empower ethnic minority women to recognise their unique talents and create an avenue for those skills to flourish.Inspire - we seek to inspire ethnic minority women to take control and reclaim their passion, power, and purpose in life. Educate - to educate a woman is to educate a nation. We will use education as a tool to help us as ethnic minority women to change the world. It will help gain equal treatment for ethnic minority women who experience discrimination through mental health alongside other forms of discrimination and prejudice.Several Seats is committed as an organisation to living our values of integrity, community, respect, excellence and courage in all aspects of our work and service provision. We understand our responsibility for everyone to feel supported and live our values of intersectionality and inclusion at all levels.During the year, we continued delivering our charitable activities covering community support advocacy, mental health advice and therapeutic group interventions. We grew our partnership networks to include other women and mental health sector organisations in England to provide more holistic support. We work collaboratively with the following organisations:University of BedfordshireTotal Wellbeing LutonWomen of Colour in PolicingEbonista ProjectWe recognise that our vision for all ethnic minority women to be empowered to live happy and healthy lives can only be achieved by also tackling the intersecting and overlapping barriers and discrimination that women from marginalised backgrounds experience. So we gathered more research and involved women with lived experience in the planning and execution of our initiatives by growing the team and expanding our director's board and team. Our board continued to grow from one board of directors to a total of four board of directors. Our staff team continued to grow in numbers from an average of 4 staff members (including volunteers) to 12 new staff members. We were able to offer one student from the University of Bedfordshire to opportunity to gain work experience through a placement term with the service as part of their degree. Charitable activities and achievementSeveral Seats aims to achieve at least 85% satisfaction levels and our 2022/2023 results demonstrated a good outcome and overall improvement in the quality and need for our service. 88% rated the service met or exceeded their expectations.91% rated the service as good or excellent. 86% stated that they noticed improved mental health and well-being. 85% reported that the service reduced stigma toward mental health difficulties. For the year 1 Feb 2022 to 31 Jan 2023, Several Seats supported women through a range of services including Sip & Paint Art therapy workshops, educational seminars, mindfulness workshops and our mentorship scheme.
