In the past financial year, the Dyscalculia Network has achieved the following: - Initiated and implemented the UK’s first ever ‘Dyscalculia Day’. This included: providing a full day educators’ conference with top UK Dyscalculia Experts, a full-day parent conference, and two free webinars: one aimed at general audiences entitled ‘An Introduction to Dyscalculia’, and another led by adults with dyscalculia talking about their experiences entitled ‘Living With Dyscalculia: The Adult Experience’. This day was reported on local Oxfordshire radio and widely on social media. Organisations such as the British Dyslexia Association and National Numeracy also posted content and reposted our material on their social media channels. This day greatly increased awareness of dyscalculia within the general public, provided vital education for educators and parents and the adult webinar resulted in a plan for the first ever in-person UK ‘Dyscalculia Show’ which is to be supported by the organisation ‘Positive Dyslexia’ and to be held in March 2024 on the margins of the annual ‘Dyslexia Show’ . - Ran a second successful ‘Maths Anxiety Awareness Day’ which opened discussions and included valuable tips for those affected by maths anxiety either in their role as parents, educators or adults who suffer from it, as well as practical advice for those who are helping others with maths anxiety. We received positive feedback from the webinars and events we organised for this. Raised awareness through contributions to national newspaper articles on dyscalculia and the proposed ‘Maths to 18’ policy. We were approached and quoted for an article in both the BBC News and BBC South East. One of our board members also had a letter on dyscalculia and the’ Maths to 18’ policy published in The Guardian. This has greatly benefited our social media reach and raised awareness. Members of our Network have also spoken on several podcasts about dyscalculia. We also exhibited at the Dyslexia Show, Dyslexia Conferences, The British Dyslexia Association’s ‘Family Day’, and several other events resulting in more people being educated and supported and increasing public awareness. - Provided educator and workplace training across the country both in person and online. This has included working with individual schools, colleges, workplaces, and Maths Hubs. This benefits both the educators and employers and the children, young people, and adults they work with. Fundraised through all of the above activities and through donations. This has raised enough to begin building a new website for Network which will greatly improve the future information and services we can provide. - Grew our community of dyscalculia specialist assessors and tutors. This has benefited anyone using our service to connect to an assessor or tutor. We also provide an assessor and tutor support group which is very active and greatly appreciated as a safe place to share information and learn from one another. - We have worked with our Advisory Board, Adult Advisory Board, and assessors and tutors to ensure that, as we develop, we are listening and taking action on the voices and needs of our community e.g., we are planning more services for adults on our new website. - We have a new celebrity ambassador who is supporting our work through her platform thereby significantly raising awareness. - We have continued to forge relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with other key organisations in the field of maths and neurodiversity, including: National Numeracy, British Dyslexia Association, ADHD UK, ADHD Foundation, National Neurodiversity Youth Council, CReSTeD, SEND Group, Positive Dyslexia and Succeed with Dyslexia. This is not only to further raise awareness of dyscalculia, but also to support these organisations for mutual benefit e.g., raising awareness of where dyscalculia intersects with other co-occurring forms of neurodivergence such as ADHD, dyslexia or dyspraxia. We have worked with UK Government content designers to advise on and support the design of a Government poster on Dyscalculia. This poster, which has already been translated into German and is available in many places of work, helps employers create suitable content and an inclusive environment for their dyscalculic employees. This benefits anyone with low numeracy, including dyscalculia; it was the most visited page on gov.uk last year.'
