Company activities and impact

Exploring Senses (ES) works in partnership with charities, non profit organisations, community groups, local government, businesses and art organisations providing activities, events, mentoring and consultation. ES has continued their Children in Need funded project at BACA school this has continued to grow and help out disadvantaged young people. The feedback from the project is still 100% positive, with young people looking forward each week to the session. The session has 20-25 regular attendees, some who have been coming for 3 years, knowing that this is a safe place to bond with their peers and talk freely, whilst learning new skills. ES has witnessed young people attending who do not normally participate in activities, changing and becoming highly engaged, confident and taking enormous pride in their work.ES curated an exhibition at Jubilee Library, Brighton showcasing the work of young neuro diverse people, called identi-toy, exploring their personalities and creating an alter ego, this exhibition was seen by 1000's of library attendees. The young people loved that their work was out in the public, the young people said that they never would have the confidence to showcase their work , but now that it has been they want to do more. ES also provided free workshops while the exhibition was on, so that the general public who were inspired by the exhibition could have a go and learn about the process. The feedback from this project was 100% positive on improving health and wellbeing, confidence and engagement. ES was commissioned by video club and Arts council to create a Youth metal health projection . ES worked with young people to create a short film, using lyrics, music and animations about mental health created by young people, which was projected onto the side of the TKMaxx building in Brighton. The projection was seen by 200 people of all ages and we signposted a number of people to ours and AudioActive sessions and mental health. This inspired people to join our other sessions which are available. ES received funding from Sussexgiving and Arts council for art sessions and creation of a mural to celebrate the Queens jubilee, ES worked with about 20 neuro-diverse young people to create artworks and a mural for the school to showcase to the attendees and visitors. The young people had so much fun learning creating the artworks and then transforming it into a mural on an outside wall, learning how to spray paint. The feedback was fantastic for health and wellbeing, teamwork and engagement. ES has continued their partnership with the mASCot inbetweeners session for Neuro-diverse 8-12 year olds. The session has about 30 young people and on average 10 parents/carers, who stay during the sessions. The young people love the sessions and successfully create new friendships and increasing engagement. The parents/carers have bonded and use the sessions to support each other. New members join all the time. The feedback to ES has been 100% positive in all sessions, the participants have stated that they feel more confident, focused and enjoy having a place to come where they can talk freely and have made great new friendships. Also being able to show work publicly has increased the outreach and awareness of the work that ES do within the local community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company stakeholders are local communities, charities, arts organisations, local government, schools and businesses. ES are currently working in partnership with Brighton Youth Centre, Dormans Youth Arts Centre, BACA school, mASCot, Arts Council, Children in Need, Brighton and Hove Council, Sussex Community Foundation, our participants and parents and carers. We consult with our partners regularly for feedback on our services to ensure that we meet the needs of the communities. This can either be verbally or through feedback forms. ES finds this feedback extremely useful in shaping our current and future sessions/projects
