The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC has established the haPPIE Research Group, dedicated to Patient and Public Involvement and Evaluation, particularly focused on amplifying the voices of Black and brown skin communities.This group operates at the core of The Essential Baby Company Ltd’s initiatives. The organisation is guided by voices often marginalised in maternity care research, aiming to address disparities in outcomes.Over the past year, The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC has built networks, conducted research, and developed infrastructure to foster lasting community relationships. This groundwork enables the creation of comprehensive, cost-effective health equity projects in maternity care.Infrastructure and processes have been refined to ensure inclusive patient and public involvement, tailoring projects to diverse community needs. Brand awareness efforts encompassed radio shows, community clinics, media appearances, and engagement with existing services.The director has continued investing in marginalised communities, with plans to leverage the growing momentum against health inequalities. Further inclusive tools and resources continue to be developed and distributed within diverse and underserved communities in England.A local NHS Trust has established a task force to address some of the health inequalities The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC made them aware of.
The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC engages a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including community members, innovators, NHS providers, public health entities, voluntary organisations, charities, and community services. Collaboration with these diverse entities facilitated direct access to funding opportunities, addressing current healthcare barriers while enhancing diverse perspectives in product and service designing.Significant efforts were dedicated to community engagement, involving targeted market surveys, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. This approach allowed for the co-designing of the company's mission, focused on promoting inclusivity in product design, research, innovation, and healthcare. Thematic analysis guided the identification of primary objectives: ensuring the accessibility and efficacy of new products and services for all community members, especially those underrepresented and underserved in maternity services.The establishment of relationships with stakeholders such as Innovators, local NHS Trusts, Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems, Integrated Care Boards, and third-sector organisations served as a valuable feedback loop. These connections were instrumental in supporting funding applications, shaping policies and procedures, and The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC provided these entities with invaluable, cost-free feedback from diverse communities. A local NHS Trust has established a task force to address some of the health inequalities The Essential Baby Co in the Community CIC made them aware of.
