COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PROJECT 226 CIC

Company Number: 13762972 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2022

Company activities and impact

Project 226 aims to provide platforms for creative art expression and cross-cultural exchanges, by curating online and offline art programs, such as exhibitions, performance art events and publishing platforms that critically challenge complacency in the society and contemporary art scene. The community will be benefited by -having more opportunities to encounter, appreciate and participate in contemporary art events at different art spaces, community and public spaces, and -having more cross-cultural dialogues that encourage mutual understandings between different ethnic groupsThe “Hong Kong Add Oil” project was delivered across the Yorkshire and Humber region between April and June 2023 and consisted of recipes sharing, tasting, voting, workshops, art exhibitions, and cookbook publication.A call for “Hong Kong-taste” recipes which could be prepared from widely available ingredients was the first part of the project. Between April and May, 27 recipes were received from Hongkongers who migrated to Yorkshire.Four tasting events were organised during the recipe collection period, where participants could see some recipes being prepared in front of them and had opportunities to taste others. The events attracted over 300 participants, including many local people, helping to facilitate connections between migrants and host communities.Following the tasting sessions, 210 valid votes were received online and in-person. Members of Project 226 created seven art pieces based on the top seven most popular recipes and exhibited them at an art space in Sheffield city centreExhibition visitors could print their own postcards with designs inspired by the exhibition’ s artwork and more than 20 local people and Hongkongers take part in two printmaking workshops.

Consultation with stakeholders

This project encourages the newly arrived Hongkongers to reach out to different local shops in the wider communities, instead of only relying on particular Asian stories or online platforms. It also encourages local communities in the UK to experience a cultural exchange with HK via cooking, eating, sharing, art exhibition and workshop participating. There are mainly 2 ways to measure success: one is the quantity of participants, the other is their direct (verbal) feedback.Despite the number of online submitted recipes meet only the 70% of our proposed figure. The other in-person participating event, such as the 4 tasting sessions, 2 art workshops, exhibitions and the closing party were all full-house, More than 300 people join our project.During the above mentioned events, we received most positive feedback and much encouragement. Most participants would like to join our events again in the future.
