Company activities and impact

Women in Vision UK Community Interest Company (WVUK) aims to help women working in the area of vision develop professional connections, in order to help them further their careers. The company started trading in March 2022. During the financial year 2022-2023, WVUK has benefitted the community in the following ways:- WVUK held two meetings, in June and December. These were for members and non-members. They benefitted the community by providing CPD, as well as wellbeing information, particularly on menopause, and networking opportunities. In addition, the opportunity to present research and win presentation prizes gave some members important contributions to their CVs.- Members were able to take part in a mentoring scheme, benefitting mentors and mentees in their career development- Members were able to take part in events with international, sister organisations, providing opportunities for networking, sharing best practice, and identifying areas for partnership, all of which will benefit the community.- Job opportunities circulated to members- Professional achievements from members highlighted in newsletters and on social media, raising the professional profile of members.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are members and prospective members. They comprise, mainly, women working in the NHS, universities, or eye care companies. The stakeholders were consulted at a meeting in Belfast in December 2019, via online events in 2020 and 2021 and via a membership survey. In the financial year 2022-2023, members were consulted at online and in-person meetings June and December 2022 respectively, and via an online survey completed when they pay their membership subscriptions. Feedback from these consultants has been used to plan events, training workshops, identify potential partners and setup the mentorship scheme.
