Company activities and impact

The Company launched in April 2022 as a pilot programme in the Bridgwater (TA6) area of Somerset to test demand and confirm need to reclaim gardens for elders, those less abled or unable to maintain their outdoor space due to circumstances so they may enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of being outdoors with nature. During this pilot over 70 households were assisted in reclaiming their gardens. Based on the learning from this pilot a second pilot programme was launched in January 2023 to test pathways to provide more longitudinal support to increase the benefit of a deeper engagement with nature. This second pilot included extended delivery in Glastonbury (BA6), Street (BA16) and Wells (BA5) areas. This pilot will conclude December 2023.Initially working from self-referrals, Social Circles quickly began receiving referrals from statutory organisations such as Social Services and NHS mental health teams, other organisations such as Family Intervention Service and Somerset Independence Plus, and a wide range of other community organisations and projects. Social Circles is a Gateway Service, engaging with people through self-referral that are not engaged with other support options, and are therefore able to refer back to others for additional support such as debt and benefits advice, fuel poverty, housing advice and mobility aids. A selection of qualitative feedback from service users is attached.

Consultation with stakeholders

Social Circles is a listening organisation and secures feedback from all service users and referring organisations. This feedback has been used to improve service delivery and develop new pathways to provide more longitudinal support. We are currently improving our social impact framework in order to collect quantitative data that will feed into future service improvements
