COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

DIGITAL WOODOO CIC

Company Number: 13008603 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2022

Company activities and impact

We have built on our testing and business development from last year delivering a number of commercial projects which have helped us with our community projects. We undertook a number of educational sessions with our local scout group. One particular session involved the scouts assembling a number of WikiHouse prototype building cassettes to familiarise the group with the building system. The scouts have now prepared the site for the prototype building in their rural campsite and we planned to complete the cabin in the Autumn but unfortunately have had to postpone the build until the New Year due to other commitments. We continue to work with the scout leaders to develop a project to explore the feasibility of designing and building a new scout headquarters. We have identified the land and we are working with local fundraisers to identify potential grant funding to undertake a feasibility study. We have also been working with a local community group to explore the possibilities of a study room within the wooded area of the community groups grounds. This project is in the early stages and we hope to be able to work with the community in the design and build of the proposed study room. Hopefully we will be able to engage the volunteers of the group in the build and enable the community to contribute to the development of facilities for the community group and share the benefits of digital manufacturing technology.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have continued to develop our relationships with local stakeholders and this work has led to a significant design project with a local district council to redevelop one of their public facilities. The project received planning permission based on the design proposed, developed with our architect collaborator. Unfortunately, the project did not receive the go ahead following planning approval but we learned an awful lot from our involvement in the project. We have spent a good deal of time and energy developing and designing a series of modular spaces and homes. We have worked with a specialist architect to create a number of modular homes that we hope to be able to offer to community groups and local authorities. We continue to explore grant funding options to enable us to develop our micro factory and prepare for full scale production. We continue to promote our activities to community groups in Cumbria and receive positive feedback and hope to develop current leads into manufacturing projects and identify further potential projects. We have also worked with Cumbria University to assess the carbon footprint of our supply chain to enable us to make carbon assessments of each of our buildings and show that each building is carbon negative.
