The company provides, through the delivery of workshops, children's activities, nature walks and BioBlitz events, opportunities for communities to engage with nature, improve their knowledge of nature, and contribute to the protection and improvement of their local natural environment. The company started delivering services in April 2022. During the financial year 2022-2023, Budding Nature CIC's activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Working with Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Penwith Landscape Partnership to deliver a programme of 13 workshops (and ongoing online support) to members of the public, developing and training a team of 20 local wildlife enthusiasts in wildlife identification and monitoring. These volunteers have subsequently formed a community-based group (Penwith Wildlife Recorders' Group) to provide support to local individuals and communities who are working to improve local biodiversity.Delivering a similar programme as above (12 workshops and ongoing online support) to local volunteers on the Dynamic Dunescapes Cornwall project. With Budding Nature CIC's help, these volunteers are likewise working towards establishing a long-term community group that can work with local conservation organisations, individuals and communities to help record and monitor biodiversity on Cornwall's sand dunes.Delivering 6 wildlife identification workshops to members of the public via Cornwall Wildlife Trust's G7 Legacy Project, and another 3 public workshops and a public online course on behalf of the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS).Delivering 5 wildlife identification workshops for students at the University of Exeter Penryn campus.Working with Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Kernow Glassa Project to deliver 4 activity mornings for 2 local schools and providing a series of follow-up classroom activities, helping children to engage with their natural environment.Delivering a workshop to a local community group (Wild Roseland) to train volunteers in monitoring the wildflower meadows that they are working to restore.Organising and delivering 2 24-hour community BioBlitz events, one with the Dynamic Dunescapes Cornwall project and one with Resilient Orchards Cornwall CIC.Supporting, without charge, community BioBlitzes organised by Sailors Creek CIC and St. Agnes Marine Conservation Group.Providing volunteering opportunities with Budding Nature CIC for 9 local volunteers. A total of 1,055 participants attended Budding Nature CIC events in 2022-2023, comprised of 532 different individuals.
The company's stakeholders are local people and communities with an interest in nature, and the organisations with which we work to deliver services to them. We consulted closely with Cornwall Wildlife Trust staff in the development of an outline programme of workshops for the Penwith Landscape Partnership and Dynamic Dunescapes Cornwall groups, and then consulted with participants throughout the delivery of the programme to modify and adapt content to meet their needs and interests. We likewise regularly review and update the content of all our workshops and activities in response to participant feedback. Towards the end of the financial year, we surveyed regular participants in our activities to identify areas of interest that they felt were missing from our range of services. This led directly to the development of a 3-session Introduction to Ecology course that is being delivered to the public in the current financial year.
