Basis of preparing the financial statements |
Turnover |
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. |
Copyrights |
Copyrights are recognised at cost. They are being amortised over their useful economic life of 10 years. |
Intangible assets |
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses. |

Taxation |

Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. |

Deferred tax |
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date. |
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference. |

8. | EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP TRUST |
In an earlier financial year the entire issued share capital of The Helpful Book Company Limited (the company) was sold and is now an 'employee owned' company. To achieve this aim a new trustee company named THBC Trustees Limited was incorporated which acts as trustee of The Helpful Book Company Limited Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The EOT owns 100% of the share capital of the company. |
The funding for this transactions was achieved through payments from the company to the EOT of £267,600 and through a loan from the previous shareholder of the business of £327,522. This loan was held within the EOT however the funding for the repayment of this loan was committed to be made by the company. During this financial year the loan was fully repaid. Payments made to the EOT have been disclosed as a gift of profits from the company position, disclosure is made via the Other Comprehensive Income statement. |
