Rotherham Broadcasting CIC operates a community radio station that enables individuals in the local Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham and the city of Sheffield to participate in the development, delivery, and management of a high-quality community radio station. In February 2021 the company was awarded a Small-Scale Community DAB license for Rotherham and Sheffield from Ofcom (the UK’s communication regulator).During the financial year of 2022 – 2023, Rotherham Broadcasting CIC T/A Rother Radio has benefited the local community in many ways including the training and development of radio industry techniques to local individual’s who have become involved with the project.The company has been active within the community attending local charitable events and assisted in raising money for a local water safety charity as well as raising awareness surrounding water safety.The company has also visited many schools within Rotherham to broadcast and deliver messages to the local community of the many projects the prefects and students are doing to not only raise awareness but to also assist in increasing the mental wellbeing and moral of local young people.Rother Radio has been involved with the successful development and training of 21 volunteers in radio industry techniques.
As Rotherham Broadcasting CIC offers a locally based service on DAB+ Digital Radio, it’s main stakeholders are members of the target community as well as input from its volunteers. The station continue to benefit the local community and it’s volunteers and is open to all feedback and has an ‘open door’, equal opportunities policy. Rother Radio has an emphasis on providing relevant community information such as news, events and any other messages that maybe of benefit to the local community.The station’s volunteers have regular meetings and discussions with management to enable them to offer any feedback that may help improve the service in which we operate.Members of the community can provide feedback in a variety of ways which we clear display on our website and can offer any feedback they may have or anything else they may like to see improved. We have regular discussions with local charities and businesses and help to support these by providing relevant information.Rother Radio has supported many charities including recently Sam’s Army’s Mission 1 Life, a charity that raises awareness of water safety for young people across South Yorkshire and also attended an outside broadcast to help raise vital funds for waterside life saving equipment and to increase awareness of the dangers of swimming in open water.Rother Radio has also included interviews with local school’s with local projects and fundraising activities such as Children In Need 2023 where prefects ran a Triathlon to raise money and Rother Radio covered the project to increase local awareness of this.
