  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from therendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the renderingof services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to dateto the total estimated contract costs.

Company activities and impact

The company runs Bright Sounds community street band, a leisure time music making group for brass, woodwind and percussion players of all ages and abilities. During the financial year 2022-2023 Bright Sounds’ activities have benefited the community in the following ways:- Bright Sounds has provided the opportunity for local brass woodwind and percussion players to meet on a weekly basis and play music together with others in a friendly and supportive environment.- Bright Sounds has helped to develop the confidence and playing ability of beginner-intermediate level musicians (both adults and young people) and taught them new skills such as improvisation and playing by ear.- Bright Sounds has helped local musicians to foster friendships with other players, creating a sense of community and regular opportunities to socialise.- Bright Sounds has provided the opportunity for young people to play alongside more experienced adult musicians, which has helped to develop their confidence and playing ability.- Bright Sounds has provided a safe space and creative outlet for adults struggling with issues such as mental health and alcoholism and helped to improve their mental well-being.- Bright Sounds has provided regular opportunities for our musicians to perform in public at events such as parades, local festivals and community events, thus giving people their first experiences of performing live music.- Bright Sounds has provided musical entertainment at numerous community parades and events, bringing joy to local community members.- Bright Sounds has inspired and encouraged people of all ages to learn a musical instrument as well as supporting and encouraging people to continue playing music from childhood into adulthood.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the musicians who play in Bright Sounds community street band and the parents of the youth musicians who play in the band.The director holds regular discussions with band members about changes and improvements that could be made in order to benefit the musicians playing with the band and other musicians wishing to join. For example, we are now holding rehearsals on alternate Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as a result of a consultation where some band members advised that they are unable to attend on Wednesday evenings. The director also involves band members in discussions around repertoire and performance opportunities on an ongoing basis.

Directors' remuneration

As shown in the accounts, the aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of services provided was £1,080.There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
