Our mission at Tan Cerdd is to authentically celebrate, promote and amplify Black Welsh Music artists, Black music genres, the Black diaspora in Wales, Black culture and traditions. With a strong focus on empowering and uplifting young Black Welsh artists and media professionals, we stand committed to addressing the existing inequality in access to opportunities, resources, and career advancement by providing dedicated support and a network of industry professionals. During the year we hosted a live event at the Tramshed in Cardiff, a Celebration of Black Music Creators, celebrating Black History Month in style, highlighting and exhibiting some of the best in Black Music Culture in Wales. This allowed local performers to showcase their talent and provide a night of entertainment for the community. Tan Cerdd has continued to establish successful partnerships with various organisations which have enabled us to program more black music and culture events, furthering our mission of promoting diversity and inclusivity within the Welsh arts sector. We have cultivated productive relationships with these organisations, including the National Museum of Wales, Tramshed, and Chapter Arts, among others. These partnerships have allowed us to stage high quality black music and culture events in prestigious venues, reaching wider audiences and creating impactful experiences. We are actively working towards expanding our programming of black music and culture events. We collaborate closely with our partners to curate engaging and diverse performances, exhibitions, and workshops that celebrate the richness of black artistry and cultural heritage. Through these collaborations, Tan Cerdd aims to foster a vibrant and inclusive arts landscape that reflects the diverse cultural fabric of Wales. We are dedicated to amplifying black voices, promoting representation, and creating spaces where black music and culture can thrive.
The company’s stakeholders are black musicians in Wales. We will continue to grow the database of artists based in Wales and keep our research updated. We are constantly consulting with them and what barriers they face within the arts sector. We have heard a broad range of ideas and opinions and through active engagement, we amplify the voices of young Black Welsh artists, promote their work, and provide networking opportunities to help them excel in their careers. We believe in creating a platform where they can showcase their talents, gain exposure, and access the resources needed for career advancement. Our other stakeholders are the community in which we work and the surrounding areas of Cardiff where we want to spread our message and promote Black History and our overall mission. We have been consulting with local government, local arts organisations and the general public to identify gaps in the market and what demand there is for specific music genres and events that we plan to showcase in the future
