The directors of the company have elected not to include a copy of the profit and loss account within the financial statements.true
For the financial year ended 31 March 2023 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 with respect to accounting records and the preparation of financial statements.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year in question in accordance with section 476.
These financial statements have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.

Accounting policies
Company information
South Eastern Circuit Bar Mess Foundation is a private company limited by guarantee incorporated in England and Wales. The registered office is Suite 23, 30 St Dunstan's Street, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 8HG.
1.1
Accounting convention
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Section 1A of FRS 102 “The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” (“FRS 102”) and the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 as applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the company. Monetary amounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.

Going concern
The company is supported by South Eastern Circuit Bar Mess (SECBM). Losses are covered by subventions or loans from SECBM to enable the company to meet its cash requirements. The board of SECBM has provided assurances that SECBM will continue to support the company financially until the company's financial situation improves to the extent that such support is no longer necessary. It is on the basis of this continuing financial support that the directors consider it appropriate to prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis.true

Turnover
Turnover represents amounts receivable for course fees, sponsorship and SECBM subvention.
1.4
Financial instruments
Basic financial instruments are measured at amortised cost. The company has no other financial instruments or basic financial instruments in current liabilities.
1.5
Taxation
The company is a charity for tax purposes in line with Paragraph 1 of Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010.
