Directors' report period ended 28 February 2023

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 28 February 2023

Principal activities of the company

Gortin Well-Being Collective (GWC) used this first year to consolidate their business structure and formulate the direction that the company was heading in. GWC was selected to represent a new 2-year, small-business mentoring scheme, jointly run between Cooperative Alternatives and Jubilee Farm. Ten small and emerging community farms from across the country were chosen to receive £1500 seed funding, and benefit from a mentoring scheme, to hone our ideas/business plan and receive training on topics such as governance, working with the media, accessing funding and others. We had a 3 monthly gathering at various sites, belonging to course participants. Its hope that the group will gather in Gortin, summer 23.GWC started up a monthly gathering of holistic practitioners from the area, to offer a support network and form a directory of contacts that could be used for future purposes. Our plan is to hold a holistic evening for the community, in Gortin Community Centre, in Spring 2023.We decided that we would try and secure a sub-lease from Owenkillew Community Development Company, to take ownership of a portion of community grounds, to implement a ‘Community Forest Garden’ project. Our proposal was accepted by the company committee, which then went to Fermanagh and Omagh Council (FODC), for approval. This approval was given December 22, and we are currently using the development company to write up the terms of the agreement. It will be a long-term lease, to match with the Development company’s own lease from FODC. It will be leased on a pepper-corn agreement.GWC used their initial seed funding to purchase growing equipment, compost and a bell tent, to host gatherings/workshops. GWC hosted a Forage and Feast event, where a local guide took a group of paying customers on a forage walk around the community grounds. This was followed by a feast, which was cooked over the campfire, under our new tarpaulin. This was a very successful event, with around 20 participants and we managed to raise over £300. We got great feedback from the workshop participants, who were encouraging us to host more events.
