Social Innovation for All CIC (hereafter SI4A) aims to deliver skills, agency and opportunity to children and young people through delivering social innovation programmes. During the fiscal year 22-23 SI4A has developed and delivered two major pilot programmes, working in collaboration with partners, schools and young people. We worked with 3,044 students aged 7-18 in 21 different schools across England. The broader reach and impact of initiatives designed by the students is estimated to be over 16,000 people. The Young Green Briton Challenge is year long journey for whole year groups of students in state schools aged 11-14 (KS3). It combines climate education with innovation, business and citizenship skills. Students work in teams to identify local climate issues and design entrepreneurial solutions to address them. The most promising teams receive seed funding and mentorship, with the best ideas entering the National Challenge finals. The Young Green Briton Challenge is a partnership between organisations, schools, students, teachers, mentors and ambassadors, with SI4A working in partnership with the Green Britain Foundation, Volunteers for Future, the Ministry of Eco Education and I Have a Voice to deliver the pilot year during 2022-23. During 2022-23 results include: - Working with 16 diverse schools across England to co-create the model, over 50% of which were in areas of higher deprivation and one of which was a special school- Working with 2768 students aged 11-14 to create over 450 ideas for local climate solutions. Through this process students built transferable work readiness skills, along with building citizenship skills.- Through volunteer mentors supporting 70 student-led climate action projects which received seed investment and collectively reached over 16,000 people- Convening 160 people, including around 90 students aged 11-14 at the House of Lords for the first Young Green Briton challenge National Awards.- The 4 national winners, plus a number of the national finalist teams, are continuing to grow the impact of their ventures in 2023-24.Primary Pioneers is a social innovation programme aimed at students in upper primary (aged 9-11). It was piloted in 2023 with 224 Year 6 pupils preparing to transition to secondary school, focusing on building ideas to improve their local environment. The programme is designed to help pupils build transferable skills, agency, and citizenship, using design thinking to engage young people in identifying and developing solutions to issues they identify and care about within their local communities. The programme culminates in a presentation of ideas to local decision makers, including councillors, community groups, school leadership and parents. The programme builds transferable skills, whilst creating positive social impact and inspiring the next generation of social innovators. Further information can be found on our website www.si4a.net
Both the Young Green Briton Challenge and the Eco Pioneers programmes were designed in consultation with a range of different stakeholders including teachers, young people, funders and other not for profit organisations (particularly our delivery partners). For example, teachers were consulted in the early design phases for the Young Green Briton Challenge, before the programme was launched in September 2022. The content was tested with a group of young people and their feedback was incorporated before it was tested in the first school. Feedback from students in this school was then used to adapt the programme as we rolled out into other schools. Students, teachers and volunteer mentors were asked to provide input and programme feedback at different points during the year. In some cases, immediate changes were made to the programmes; in others the changes are being implemented into the programmes being launched in 2023-24.
The Director received remuneration of £11,250 over the full financial year. The Director works nearly full-time for SI4A and the remuneration was related to programme delivery, primarily for the Young Green Briton Challenge.
