Year on year the Festival, and therefore Shepton Mallet, is achieving a growing international and wider national reach. Two overseas garden tours chose to visit the Festival. We hosted a touring group of 27 keen gardeners and galanthophiles from Holland and another touring group of 17 from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Two snowdrop collectors from Sweden also made the journey to visit the Festival. Anecdotal feedback from the local businesses involved in the Festival suggests that we are also attracting a growing number of people from further afield in this country. The Poetry and Photography Competitions again saw entries from around the world, as far afield as India, Bangladesh, and the USA. The Poetry Competition attracted 64 entrants from 21 countries outside the UK and 290 from the UK with only 16 entrants included in this figure from Somerset. The Photography Competition also put Shepton Mallet on the global map with 50 entrants from 22 countries outside the UK and 56 from the UK. Local Open Gardens also attract visitors, all of which improve the economic benefit for the town.
An annual report is provided to the main sponsor, The Town Council and we give details of what's been undertaken to the local residents at the Annual Parish Meeting
