Company activities and impact

LOVE Food CIC is a community-based organisation dedicated to increasing access to, and promoting the benefits of, Local, Organic, Vegan, Ethical food for animals, health and the environment. We organise food activities to bring the local community together, help people eat better, address food poverty, and reduce food waste.We have been running for 2.5 years and now have a paid part-time coordinator, a team of over 20 volunteers, and 5 freelance cookery tutors. Over the past year we have organised over 50 events, which have directly benefited over 500 people. Our activities include cookery sessions, a community fridge, lunch clubs, foraging walks, organic veg buying groups, food celebration events, an apple juicing project, and creating recipe booklets.In the last year we've organised: - regular monthly lunch clubs in Ide and St Thomas- our apple juicing project and Alphington Apple Day event- Walk & Cook foraging sessions all over Exeter- a variety of cooking sessions at Exeter Community Centre, including those focussing on plant-based cooking for health for a variety of groups including home educated families, Exeter university students, RD&E hospital staff, and patients referred by Exeter City PCN- vegan Polish Pierogi classes in St Thomas- cooking with seasonal, organic veg at Ide Village Hall and Park Life Heavitree Hub, which led to the setting up of Ide Food Buying Group- a series of budget cooking sessions at the Beacon and Newcourt Community Centres- cookery demos focussing on reducing food waste at Exeter Library- as well as setting up our community fridge and creating a new recipe booklet. Our community fridge was set up at St Thomas Library and has had regular food donations from Exeter Food Action, Cowick St Co-op, Grocer on the Green, St Thomas Community Garden, Shillingford Organics, households, and allotments. The food is available for anyone to take for free and helps reduce food waste, and help those on low incomes access healthy food.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly consult with our stakeholders, through discussions on social media; via our Facebook; Twitter and Instagram accounts; and also through posting on local community pages. We share ideas on local Facebook groups and community newsletters, as well as chatting to people in person at our lunch clubs; cookery sessions and other activities. We work in partnership with other community projects and organisations like St Thomas Community Garden, St Thomas Library, Exeter Food Action and Shillingford Organics who help to run our activities. We liaise regularly with other organisations in the community including Wellbeing Exeter. We also speak to community members and organisations at St Thomas networking meetings run by Exeter Connect and also at local events and community open days.We ask people who take part in our cookery sessions to fill in feedback forms and make suggestions about what we could do to improve our sessions. All our activities are run with volunteers from the local community. Our volunteers contribute ideas on an ongoing basis whilst helping at our projects, as well as at volunteer meetings and via our volunteer WhatsApp groups.
