Year Ending: 30 June 2023

Company activities and impact

In 2019 we started TECgirls with an idea. What if we held events that got young girls (age 5-12) interested in technology, engineering and creative industries? Could we make a difference? We've since reached 000's of kids and run workshops in schools, museums, community halls and colleges. We've built towers, created stop motion films, wiredlighthouses, programmed micro:bits and even built automated watering stations for plants. In 2022 we inspired 1270 people across 22 TECgirls live events and 2 TECwomen connect events delivered by a team of just 2 along with 300 hours of volunteer time logged by 10 active volunteers across events during 2022.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our full year Impact Reports cover much of the feedback we receive at events from kids, parents and teachers and women working in Cornwall Tech - which goes on to play an integral part in shaping our next steps and refining our delivery aims.“I like making stories and making things. Yes, I would like to come to more TECgirls events.”(6-year old girl)“Awesome! So much Tech talent here in Cornwall. I feel like I've found 'my people’.”“I smiled all the way home. Brilliant! Such a wonderful female tech community growing here in Cornwall.”“I loved the coding bit. Where can I get a micro:bit so I can do more? And are you doing any other clubs I can join?” - Lilly, Year 5 student, St Austell“This was the best lesson we’ve had in STEM. Our kids are talking about it to all of the other years at lunch and are so excited about what they have learned." Head Teacher, Sandyhill AcademyWe ‘test’ all our workshops and activities out with our dedicated TECgirls Assemble Panel - who get stuck in and test our workshops, training, learning and most importantly, our fun ratings before any of our activities are signed off by this stellar panel of young TECgirls! This amazing group of 6-13 year old TECgirls always give the final seal of approval for all theactivities and workshops we deliver. In November 2022, we were delighted to receive external validation for the work we are doing by scooping 3 awards at the Tech South West awards. These were for Commitment to Diversity, Best Education Initiative and the TechTeach Award.
