COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

VICISTILL CIC

Company Number: 13717706 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2023

Company activities and impact

ViciSTILL CIC was formed in November 2021, and continues to provide specialist programmes designed to support our community’s mental health. Currently we provide two different programmes, The Still Method Anxiety and Confidence Coaching, and Drawing and Talking (D&T) therapeutic play. The company has benefited the community in the following ways:- Continued to deliver STILL Method Anxiety Coaching sessions in community hubs across Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire- Increased the number of STILL Method programs to enable support for a wider range of participants- Provided group Drawing and Talking therapeutic play sessions in a community hub in Stoke-on-Trent- Engaged with more than 150 children and adults working in small group sessions, providing an opportunity for social interaction and reducing isolation.- Continued to provide STILL Method Anxiety Coaching and D&T sessions for the community at little or no cost to the participants.- Continued to work in partnership with other charities and CICs to provide mental health support by delivering STILL Method Anxiety Coaching sessions.- Improved the mental health of participants by helping them to gain confidence, become more resilient and to overcome anxiety through delivery of the STILL Method, providing the participants with tools to deal with difficult feelings, fears and phobic thoughts.- Help participants build healthy attachments and to process trauma, allowing participants to build emotional resilience and an understanding of human connection through delivery of D&T- Improved the mental health of children and young people in our community by helping to support them to process trauma- Made valuable and sustainable links with a range of organisations in the area.Due to the low socio-economic status of Stoke-on-Trent and its level of deprivation and diverse population; our programs need to run for free. By offering free programs, we continue to support the vulnerable; teaching them strategies now that will empower them for their futures; developing resilience and helping them to set goals that are aspirational. Our sessions continue to have and impact, not only on the individuals who participate, but also on their families and people in the local communities. Our sessions bring together people from different cultures and backgrounds, enabling them to share experiences and to learn from each other. By using local community hubs, we not only help participants to improve their mental health and wellbeing in our sessions, but also to connect with others in the community. Participants in sessions form close bonds, and also become more engaged in the community in general.

Consultation with stakeholders

ViciSTILL CIC’s activities are based in the communities of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, as these are the areas in which we have the most experience. Through our previous careers, we have a deep personal and professional understanding of the issues of the area that some members of our communities may face and are passionate about providing opportunities to support the mental health of the people in our community.By volunteering at social and fundraising events, we have regular conversations about what is needed in the community. 80 people completed a community survey for us on social media. Feedback from our survey highlighted the fact that money is a barrier to supporting mental health and advocating the need for more coaching programs. Mental health, raising aspiration and community involvement were all key: It’s imperative we support people earlier to prevent them reaching the lowest point. As a result of our consultations, we have introduced variations of our program to improve the mental wellbeing for the whole. We will also be delivering a new program, Compass For Life, which will target the low aspirations of the children, young people and adults in our community. In addition, this year, we will ask attendees to support future participants by coming back to share valuable insights and for young people to present to guardians and peers. As ex-teachers with a good network of contacts, we know that we continue to provide a service in the community that is sadly lacking in the education system: providing support for mild-to-moderate mental-health issues and early support.
