Company activities and impact

Chatting Chimers CIC supports women and children from marginalised communities overcome barriers, so they can improve their life chances. This is done through advice and guidance, education, training and support through use of different activities such as arts can crafts, sports, exercise, mental health workshops and any other similar activities. We registered as a CIC in November 2022. During the financial year November 2022 to November 2023, we have provided activities to the communities we support in the following ways:We delivered basic maths through Multiply funding to over 55 women aged 19+, who gained confidence with maths and learnt new skills. The project was from January 2022 to March 2023. It involved delivering maths courses, along with practical activities. We delivered in Nelson, Brierfield, Preston and Fleetwood, which benefitted many participants. We have continued to support women beyond the project. This had a great impact on confidence of women and enabled them to learn skills to use for everyday life and to help in work situations as well. Our next project was 'Let's Connect Communities', funded by CRL was aimed at young people. We delivered activities and opportunities with train travel to participants from BAME backgrounds who haye multiple barriers. The participants enjoyed the train journeys, visited different places, took part in activities, and enjoyed good food, which they would not normally get opportunities to do. The participants increased confidence with train travel, experienced buying tickets and scanning tickets. They engaged in group activities along with exploring different places, they increased patience as many trains were cancelled and they had to wait. They got to do something that helped them refresh their mind and helped overcome stress and related issues. This project was delivered from June to September 2023 and supported 36 young people. In June 2023 we took part in an ECO fest delivered by Prospect Housing in Ac-crington and delivered henna painting and embroidery activities to members of the public that came to our stall. This helped us promote our services and get feedback on what types of activities people want us to deliver in future. In August we received funding form TNL to deliver activities to women to overcome mental health and isolation issues and to improve overall wellbeing through exercise and creative activities. Up to November 2023, we have delivered to a group of 22 women in Blackburn and 8 women in Accrington. We have supported them overcome stress and improve wellbeing through exercise, along with learning new skills through sewing, cooking and arts & crafts activi-ties. This project is ongoing. We will be delivering to a second group in Blackburn and also to a group in Nelson.

Consultation with stakeholders

We take regular feedback from participants who attend our courses during and at the end of projects, as that informs us on what they want from us and that helps us determine needs and enables us to plan our projects. We also consult participants when we attend events and group gatherings, as that also gives us insight into needs as well. We attend various partner organisation meetings and focus group events, which keeps us informed on local needs. Our staff complete reports at the end of projects, which highlights what has gone well and what hasn't gone well, and we act accordingly to improve our services. Our staff speak to participants during activities and ask them what they would like in the future and what barriers they face in overcoming their issues, which they then feedback in their reports, so we can have well informed and planned future projects. We took part in an ECO Fest event, where we delivered henna and embroidery activities in Acerington town centre, by placing a stall in the town square. This also enable us to consult stakeholders around services they want and issues they face. We take all this feedback to help us plan future delivery, through full understanding of needs.A couple of our directors come from our target communities and fully understand the barriers they face. They talk to people and see their friends and family go through the same issues, so fully understand the needs. We have found through our research that COVID impacted the community hugely, which affected mental health hugely and left many people with no or limited income. Then the Cost-of-Living Crisis hit, so they haven't had a chance to overcome COVID issues and now are facing monetary problems in all ways. They are struggling mentally and having to cut costs on food and other amenities is causing physical issues as well. We are trying our beat to support as many people as we can and will continue to do so.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £10,535, paid for delivering activities for the projects. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director's loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
