MAD LEAP CIC successfully fundraised for a project to scale its circular food model SOURCE, in East London across three sites. Work commenced in January establishing a mushroom farm one one site (social housing estate) and entering the planning process at a primary school, which will see the development of 2 polytunnels and an outdoor edible playground. An educational programme linking intensive food production in the polytunnels and composting of the school’s food waste with the curriculum is in development. The aim is to establish an economically sustainable model that can be replicated across, not only schools but other sites such as social housing, new developments etc. where social, environmental and economic benefits can be realised. In addition, MAD LEAP also delivered a range of green skills training and site visits to community groups (East and Central London) and university groups (including Universities of Westminster and Louisiana).
We have engaged with stakeholders to deliver the circular food project including:School staff via planning educational sessions and feedback requestsSchool kitchen staff through meetings and demonstrations of food waste recyclingParents via a questionnaire and attendance at parents evenings where we distributed flyers and explained the circular food model in more detailIn addition, we have engaged local residents via green skills training and requests for feedback. We are currently fundraising to extend the scops of this engagement to include door knocking, community events and more green skills training, including accreditation.
