Torbay-Ukraine Support was set up to provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees following the outbreak of the invasion from Russia in 2022. We held weekly meetings in a church hall in Paignton and provided a bus service to bring them from across the bay; Torquay, and Brixham in particular. Several also came from Newton Abbot. We provided second-hand school uniforms (for free) which had been donated by supporters and organized for an NHS dentist as well as donations of toiletries from various shops within the bay. In addition, we provided English Language tuition. Together with Torbay Council and the Torbay Community Development Trust free bus tickets for urgent travel could be distributed.
