Company activities and impact

Nature Youth Connection and Education CIC (NYCE) in 2022-23 delivered a wide range of activities both in and out of Bristol. The lifting of Covid restrictions expanded its ability to deliver directly to young people and families most in need:-Delivered woodwork workshops to teenagers experiencing mental health difficulties from a diverse range of neighbourhoods in Bristol. This was in partnership with Off The Record and Bristol TreeCraft.-Delivered a week long residential for 15 young people in partnership with ACE CIC.-Continued to deliver drop-in woodwork workshops to dozens of young people at Felix Road Adventure Playground.-Delivered a Green Skills entrepreneurship program for 16 young adults from racially minoritised backgrounds in partnership with Black South West Network and the University of West England.-Delivered FairBnB (free holiday scheme) to 10 low income families in the Brecon Beacons. -Took on the lease of a community building (The Pickle Factory) to start to support activities for young people, families, and the general community in East Bristol. This has provided a home for a weekly low cost supper club as well a growing range of accessible activities. The space has been refurbished using the help of volunteers.

Consultation with stakeholders

In 2022 we conducted a focus group of community groups interested in the use of The Pickle Factory as a community building. This led to the assumption of the lease said building and the resumption of community activities there.By making use of film we took feedback of young people on our trips to gather evidence of the impact of these trips on their wellbeing. These films have enhanced our outreach and increased our awareness of the needs of these young people.Hirers of the Pickle Factory are asked to provide feedback on their use of the space. This informs the improvements needed to keep the space in positive and impactful use.
