In the year ending on 31st May 2023 The Social Cinema has delivered a programme of screenings and events called FRAMEBURN dedicated to science fiction and the future ofclimate. The programme offered 4 screenings, one of which was dedicated to a selection of short films, with sci-fi films ;shorts and features from 5 continents and spanning different styles and cultures. The screenings were matched with different types of events, from a panel discussion and Q and A to a board game meet-up, an exhibition of art created by local youth group Blackhorse Responders and a tasting of edible insect canapes. The screenings were very well attended and received very positive feed back. Audiences seemed to respond very positively to the idea of addressing the climate emergency through the lenses of science fiction. All screenings were offered at very affordable cost with tickets at only 5 pounds, while the event part was always offered for free and open to all the customers of the events premises, Higham Hill Tap.This series of events involved a diverse local audience and was enriched by manycollaborations with different organisations;Blackhorse Responders and Yum Bug and individuals some of which were from our local community ; journalist Emilie Filou, researchers Angela YT Chan and Francis Gene-Rowe, graphic novelist Anna Mill.In February 2023 we offered two events for families called Impossible Collages, where weoffered a screening of short animated films and an art workshop. The events took place in Higham Hill and in Leytonstone and were offered for free. With these events we wanted to offer a selection of creative animation outside of the mainstream and an opportunity for families to stretch their creativity. The same formula was repeated in April 2023, as part of an event organised by the Barbican Centre called Leytonstone Loves Film Saturday Cinema. On that occasion we screened the same programme of short animated films and offered two different art workshops, one for the 3 to 7 age bracket and one for 8 to 11 year olds. This event was also offered for free and received extremely positive feedback.
The Social Cinema London CIC is striving to offer high quality events to our local community in Higham Hill and Walthamstow. We offer our events for free when possible or for very affordable prices. Our events have been well attended by the local community and also attract audiences from other parts of Waltham Forest. In 2023 we have made an effort to organise more family oriented events with our Impossible Collages series. In 2022 we had organised screenings for families, but the fact that they were outdoor screenings meant that we needed to wait for the sunset to start the event and some families told us that that was too late for them. For this reason we switched to indoor events in winter, which made our events more accessible. We encouraged more feedback both at our Frameburn events and Impossible Collages screenings, which was very encouraging and useful. In 2022/23 we have collaborated with many local organisations, local groups, individuals and event spaces. Collaborators includes Blackhorse Responders, High Hill Tap/HackneyBrewery, Yum Bug, Higham Hill Hub, Good Shepherd Studios, journalist Emilie Filou, researchers Angela YT Chan and Francis Gene-Rowe, graphic novelist Anna Mill. Many of these collaborations have developed into long term working relationships which have continued through to the second half of the year and informed our following projects.
Director Anna Peres was paid £600 in the year. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require disclosure.
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
