Company activities and impactThe Menopause Alliance CIC has completed its first year, which has been a fantastic achievement for the organisation. The directors, delivery partners, and volunteers have put in a lot of effort to create a much-needed space for those in the local area who require support related to menopause. The organisation has made significant progress towards achieving its goals and objectives, thanks to everyone involved's hard work and dedication. They have successfully implemented various activities that have benefited many individuals who attended, exceeding our initial targets. The organisation has provided a safe and supportive space for those experiencing menopause to share their experiences and support each other, which has helped to reduce the stigma surrounding it. Additionally, their activities have generated much media interest, and there is more demand than available placements.Menopause Alliance's name came from the desire to work in partnership alliances with partners and relevant people within the health and menopause space. Anita Powell, the founder of Menopause Alliance, helped with research with the TV show producer Kate Muir and team in designing the Menopause Davina McCall Menopause TV show on Channel 4. Anita provided stories and recommendations on lived experiences of menopause from diverse communities. The Davina McCall menopause show has been influential in educating women on menopause. The Menopause midlife peer support group has successfully explored mental health, exercise, health education, menopause, and more. Monthly peer support meetings are available.Menopause Alliance recently organised a successful 'Menopause Training for Health Professionals' session in collaboration with Gynaecologists Dr Emily Davy and Dr Thanga Katimada, along with Menopause Nurse Leslie Quinn and the NHS BEDOC Menopause Lead. The event was attended by several NHS health professionals, where they were provided with training and discussed menopause-related topics. The Menopause Alliance team believes that the event will help improve local menopause healthcare within the NHS. The team is planning to hold a similar session in the future. The event was organised by Menopause Alliance, Dr Emily Davy, and Councillor Nesreen Akhtar.TV doctor Dr Zoe Williams interviewed Anita Powell as part of Magic FM Radio International Women's Day Week to discuss menopause in black women. As a member of the Astellas Pharmaceutical International Patient Centricity Committee, Menopause Alliance helps the international Pharma Company to understand the experiences of women going through menopause in various communities, including those with lower socioeconomic status.Anita Powell, the Founder of Menopause Alliance, was interviewed for the Newson Podcast. She discussed how menopause affects lower socioeconomic groups and diverse communities and the importance of menopause support in the community.Members of the Menopause Alliances were filmed as part of BBC Maestro's online educational platform, but the footage has not been broadcast yet. The group has organised several exercise classes and a walking group to encourage menopause and movement. They were also fortunate to have a guest trainer, Alex Goulding, who is a world record breaker, mental health advocate, and personal trainer, to provide exercise and support to the group. The Menopause Alliance was invited to an exclusive event at Boots in London, where celebrities and menopause groups gathered to discuss the topic. We organised a Men and Menopause event to educate men and equip women with skills to manage menopause while communicating with their partners with Clare Copleston, a Meaningful Education Practice CIC therapist.Anita Powell participated in the Noon Menopause event organised by Eleanor Mills, my ex-guardian newspaper editor, to encourage discussion about menopause and diversity.Anita Powell participated as a panellist in the Flux State event, an online community gathering centred around menopause and its impact on the community.
Consultation with stakeholdersWe have been regularly consulting with peer group attendees, volunteers, health professionals, and the wider community audience through talks, questionnaires, and research. The information gained from the consultations was used to plan the mentioned activities and future activities.
