COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

Year Ending: 30 June 2023

Company activities and impact

The Wildish Club is a community project that started in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire in June 2022. We say “It's a bit like cubs but for adults” and it helps connect people within the local community and surrounding communities to each other and the natural environment in meaningful ways. We had a very successful first year - bringing over 250 people together in the Nidderdale AONB at different outdoor events. Over the course of our first year we held over 14 structured workshops which have helped employ local artisans, outdoor specialists and support local environments - e.g. star gazing workshop, stool building, ancient woodland management, fly fishing, outdoor cooking, foraging, linoprinting, illustration and drawing. Participated and led 3 different walks connecting refugees from surrounding areas to local people, and getting them out and about into the Yorkshire dales. Undertaken 30 structured wildish walks. A wildish walk is walking with a twist. We always accompany our walks with an activity e.g. bird spotting or photography. This allows people to have something to do on the walk and acts as an ice breaker to get people talking to each other and connecting without feeling intimidated to do so. From this project, members have made friends and do activities together outside the Wildish Club. Members have commented that this space has made them feel less lonely and given them a community of friends and increased their confidence in accessing the outdoors. New arrivals to the area have found it beneficial in meeting people in their new community and building connections. See attached documents for reviews and feedback from community members.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our main stakeholder is the local community of Pateley Bridge. We communicate with our local community through email and newsletters as well as have an open door policy at the hub of the Wildish Club (Wildish on Pateley High Street) where members come in and talk and give feedback when they wish. After the first 6 months we undertook a survey of all our members which was anonymous, asking for feedback on The Wildish Club, the benefits they experienced from participating in our events and being a part of this community, what they would like to see us do to further the project and further benefit the community.
