Common Ground provides benefit to the residents of North Kensington and surrounding areas through the provision of services and activities that increase well-being, confidence, community resilience and safety. In our first year, 2019/20, we began fund-raising - via grants - for our community safety project Firesafe. We were successful in our bids to the Electrical Safety Fund and FM Global and began discussions with a number of digital agencies who could help to build our digital fire auditing tool Firesafe. It quickly became obvious that further funding would be needed and we took the decision to raise further funds before starting development. Once we have developed the product, residents, particularly those in social housing, will have a better understanding of fire safety and will be able to mitigate against fire risks. Our ultimate aim is to reduce instances of fire.We also carried out research in the local community, working with groups of residents to understand how they might use the Firesafe app.
Our stakeholders are the residents of North Kensington, and our particular focus is on those living in social housing. We consulted with two groups of residents (40 in total) by running two focus groups of a broad selection of residents from a variety of backgrounds, including those with long-term disabilities. We also surveyed over 348 people via Survey Monkey and the Next Door app to ascertain their level of knowledge of fire safety issues. As a result of our consultations we will be translating the platform into Arabic and using a suite of icons rather than text where possible.
