Company activities and impact

Let’s Cook Project is a social enterprise that aims to give children and adults knowledge, skills and confidence to cook from scratch. Having the ability to cook is a key life skill and delivers benefits including improved physical, emotional and mental health, reduction in food waste, ability to cook and eat on a budget, improved self-confidence, and reduced social isolation. Our mission is to give the nation skills, knowledge and confidence to cook from scratch, concentrating our efforts on the most vulnerable in society who may not have access to these skills. We have reached over 9,700 unique beneficiaries and over 14,000 indirect beneficiaries. These include: University of Leicester, family workers, Homestart, primary schools, Wycombe Museum, Hubbub, Buckinghamshire Waste Partnership, Carer’s Support, children’s centres, Make Lunch, Uncle Ben’s Onward Housing, Sheffield International Venues and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority. We deliver cookery training to a wide range of audiences as described above to name but a few. We do this by delivering directly to the end user/beneficiary and by using a ‘train the trainer’ method to share skills and knowledge to others to then disseminate to the wider community. We have also supported corporate teams to deliver fun, practical sessions within their own local community as part of an employee volunteering programme. We have engaged with several volunteers to help us on our mission to get communities cooking and we also have a ‘bank’ of self-employed freelance staff who help us deliver our courses across the country. This means we can tread lightly and consider the environmental impact of our work wherever possible. We are continuing to grow as a business and look forward to supporting and empowering more communities over the next year.
