COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BRISTOL KORA CIC

Company Number: 11933573 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2023

Company activities and impact

In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. The company operates a community centre catering primarily to Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Groups (BAME), which includes a cafe, tailoring workshop, and community hall. The community centre is a central meeting point for us to help and educate our members about pressing social needs. When necessary, we refer them to relevant organizations for further support. The centre serves as our social hub, where we interact, support, and exchange ideas for the well being of our community. This is particularly important, as most of our members are from BAME backgrounds and need support for integration and inclusion. The centre provides these services regularly to the community, and it has already served 800 individuals and households. These numbers are increasing every day.Our cafe shop is a vital source of income for us, and it's entirely run by our community's team of volunteers. The cafe is unique in the sense that it offers food items that are not generally available elsewhere. On an average day, we serve a minimum of 30 to 50 individuals. Our community has a tailoring workshop that serves as a fashion hub, particularly for women who enjoy designing and sewing traditional BAME outfits. In addition to designing, the workshop also offers a repair service for damaged ready-made clothes. This workshop provides a platform for young members of our community to showcase their skills and creativity in BAME fashion design. The community hall is frequently used for small community gatherings such as naming ceremonies, funeral ceremonies, and meetings of small groups. This is very helpful to our community as it is cost effective compared to other available halls.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our company has two main groups of stakeholders: registered members and associated members. Registered members are those who pay a registry fee and are bound by our rules and regulations. They also form the pool of our volunteers who help in the day-to-day activities of the company. On the other hand, associated members are individuals who use our services but are not registered members. This group makes up the majority of our service users. Our company's directors are the brainchild of our organization, and they form part of the nucleus of our community. Having lived in our community for many years, they possess extensive knowledge regarding the needs of our community, which led to the establishment of the company. At our community centre, we ask all visitors to complete a short questionnaire to understand their reasons for visiting. We also regularly conduct focus groups to consult with members on issues we want to implement and gather their opinions on such matters. Additionally, we engage with our members through our social media sites and groups to seek their feedback and suggestions. We collected valuable information from our research that helped us understand the needs of our service users. Based on this information, we have decided to establish a youth hub, which is currently in the planning stage. Crime and antisocial behaviors have become a significant concern for our service users, and it is the reason for most of their visits to our centre. Our consultations revealed that there is a strong desire among our members to have a dedicated youth hub to help with the rising crime issue.
