COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PLYMOUTH COMMUNITY CLIMATE CENTRE CIC

Company Number: 14052602 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2023

Company activities and impact

The Community Climate Centre provided different opportunities for the environmental community of Plymouth to convene and provided opportunities for Plymouthians – who were worried about environmental issues, but not yet active – to engage with the climate crisis in ways fit for them.Throughout the year we organised multiple meet-ups for volunteers and new-comers. Through community consultation we collectively decided to set up a Critical Mass Bike Ride in Plymouth. Every first Sunday of the month we would gather on the Hoe to bike around Plymouth in a big group of two-wheels. In the summer this was very popular, come winter we dropped numbers, but kept going. The rides meant a lot to people who wanted to try out active travel, but didn’t feel safe on the road on their own. Doing the ride meant that they had the experience of taking up space in a car-dominated infrastructure. For the volunteer leaders in the movement we organised 2 days of movement training. Through movement mapping, complexity theory and power analysis they gathered tools and insights. In addition, we have spend considerable amount of time on trying to secure a new building that can hold the community and activities for the years to come.

Consultation with stakeholders

During the year we had multiple volunteer meet ups that are open for anyone to join. During these meetings we brainstormed activities to do for the year. From that input we narrowed the ideas down to 5 activities together with the volunteers. And in the end we choose 1 of those activities, which we then continued to organise with said volunteers. This process has been very well received.
