Company activities and impact

Northway Together CIC volunteers have developed and delivered the following not-for-profit community activities on Northway estate:- A weekly mutual aid food parcel service for local Northway residents in need, serving approximately 40 households.- A weekly Community Kitchen, which has grown popular amongst adults at lunchtime, and young people and their families after school.- A monthly Community Gardening and Arts Cafe, which welcomes dozens of local residents of all ages and abilities. This regular activity is run in partnership with Marston Community Gardening.- A now annual ‘Beyond Black History Month’ celebration, offering a wide range cultural and educational activities. This has been well-attended by people from throughout the city of Oxford, instilling a renewed sense of pride in the local Northway community.- Ad hoc youth activities during summer holidays.All of the company’s activities have provided:- Free access to genuinely safe and inclusive spaces where residents of all ages and abilities can come together; discuss the issues they face; exchange ideas and experiences; and access support and advice from peers, as well as a local councillor when needed.- Services that reduce the impact of food poverty, socioeconomic disadvantage and exclusion in Northway; and promote health, wellbeing and new social connections.- Opportunities for local residents to contribute to collective projects that benefit their local community, on a volunteer basis.The Northway community has benefited by:- Participating in inclusive opportunities to learn new skills while connecting with others, building supportive relationships, and cultivating a sense of community.- Developing a sense of belonging through involvement in new experiences.- Receiving support to design, develop and deliver activities that align with their interests and needs.- Building individual and collective capacity to help each other, sustain local support networks and services, and create positive social change in Northway.- Feeling empowered with a greater sense of individual and collective confidence, autonomy, engagement, and purpose.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are residents of Northway estate and the surrounding area. All company activities have been co-developed to address needs directly identified by many of Northway's most disadvantaged and vulnerable residents as the community emerged from the pandemic into the cost-of-living crisis.The company continuously gathers, reviews and acts on regular feedback from volunteers and activity participants. We convene regular meetings for volunteers and participants to reflect on company activities, with a view to collectively reviewing service delivery, identifying and implementing improvements, and developing new projects to meet evolving needs.
