The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 July 2023

Principal activities of the company

The company’s activities provide and benefit to the community of Beckenham (BR3) and surrounding areas that wish to come together to sing. This is a natural voice (non-auditioned) choir accessible to all persons over the age of 16, irrespective of musical experience. The choir shall allow the opportunity for members to perform in public, often local venues and events, to share music with wider members of the community.

Political and charitable donations

We fundraise at events for charities chosen by our members. Cash donations at events were not put through the ‘company’ and were donated directly. The cost of tickets and any donations that we made on behalf of others (St John’s Penge) were then donated from our bank account to the amount of £868.

Company activities and impact

The company’s activities provide and benefit to the community of Beckenham (BR3) and surrounding areas that wish to come together to sing. This is a natural voice (non-auditioned) choir accessible to all persons over the age of 16, irrespective of musical experience. The choir meets weekly, in term -time to learn and rehearse. The choir allows the opportunity for members to perform in public, often local venues and events, to share music with wider members of the community.During the financial year of 2022/23 the activities of this company benefited the community in the following ways:Throughout the year we had great outreach within the community via our social media pages with 35 people coming for a taster and 15 of those joining us. We ended Year 2 with 52 active membersInvited membership via social media and community performances to the choir.Performed at 3 local community events: Holy Trinity Penge, St Johns Penge and The George InnRaised money and awareness of 4 charities through local community performances: Bromley Brighter Beginnings, The Maypole Project, The Amber Trust and a local family with a young child (Harrison) battling cancer. Provided employment opportunities for several local musicians. The choir has had some social events. Membership fees have remained stable despite cost of living increases.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are the members of the choir from the community. The directors of the company live in the community and discuss the way the company is meeting the needs of the community regularly. Members are asked to fill in a survey annually and hold an AGM where all members are invited and given an opportunity to question and add comments. We received good response to the feedback Survey from choir members as to the direction of the choir / music choice. Some feedback here:“Getting an opportunity to meet a vibrant group of people and doing something fun. My favourite time of the week is coming to the choir and singing without any judgment from anyone.”“The sense of achievement when we get songs to performance standard.”“The welcoming atmosphere, amazing teacher, and opportunities to sing with live musicians.”
