Principal activities of the company

The Riverside Cafe and Icy Bar CIC is a social enterprise operating as a cafe and icy bar on the site of The Garden House, Marple. Open 6 days a week, it provides drinks and food to individual visitors and groups. The cafe is led by volunteers and provides placements for young adults with additional needs to learn hospitality skills and to increase self confidence and working with others. The cafe delivers specific projects in line with established local need. An example this year has been the weekly drop in cafe, Our Space, for young adults with additional needs.

Political and charitable donations

The Riverside Cafe and Icy Bar CIC makes regular charitable donations to The Garden House Marple Charity foe the purpose of providing work placement opportunities on the farm for young adults with additional needs. In this financial year the donations have totalled £22000

Company policy on disabled employees

The organisation does not have any employed members of staff. Its mission is to provide voluntary placements for young adults with additional needs, including disability.

Company activities and impact

In the last financial year Riverside Cafe and Icy Bar CIC has provided placement opportunities for young adults with additional needs. Following receipt of National Lottery Community Fund grant, it has also run a weekly drop in cafe, Our Space, for young adults with autism and their families and carers, providing a peer support network.

Consultation with stakeholders

The organisation is participant led, in that those with loved experience shape and develop its provision of activities. The organisation regular consults with visitors to the cafe, local groups, and its volunteers. This is an important element of the mission.
