Company activities and impact

The company runs music therapy clinics, both in an in-house capacity at Stephens House & Gardens, and in an outreach capacity on the premises of local service providers. During the financial year 2022-2023, NLMT’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways:- dozens of individuals have benefited from music therapy sessions to help treat mental health issues associated with autism, neurological impairment, complex family background, anxiety, depression and dementia;- we have provided music therapy across the lifespan, from young children to the elderly;- we have provided full-time or part-time employment for six local residents; - one major care home provider has formed a partnership with NLMT to offer outreach music therapy in several sites across London, forming a significant income stream for the financial year

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are individuals and families receiving music therapy sessions from NLMT therapists, and local service providers looking for partnership working. The director of the company lived in the same part of London as where Stephens House is based for a number of years and developed the business model for the clinic based on their experience of talking to local residents and potential partners. We ask everyone coming for music therapy to provide us with testimonials about their experience, either personally or a carer giving a testimonial on behalf of someone else. This has helped us to build up a profile of local need: many of our families are experiencing an acute anxiety relating from the pandemic and the transition back into everyday life while caring for vulnerable household members. Next year we intend to implement standardized, validated outcome measures for our outreach projects, to complement the qualitative data collected. We had hoped to complete that this year but experienced significant staffing issues due to all three senior members of staff needing stays in hospital for different reasons at different points in the year.
