Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 29 April 2023 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

These accounts have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.

The directors have chosen not to file a copy of the company's profit and loss account.

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Financial Reporting Standard 101

    Turnover policy

    Turnover represents amounts earned on services provided during the year and derives from the provision of services falling within the company's ordinary activities.Turnover is recognised at the point of delivery of the service.Grant income is accounted for under the accruals model. Grants are recognised in income on a systematic basis over the periods in which the entity incurs the related costs for which the grant is intended to reimburse. Any grant monies not spent at the year end is deferred in accruals and deferred income.

Company activities and impact

MAD LEAP CIC successfully fundraised for a project to scale its circular food model SOURCE, in East London across three sites. Work commenced in January establishing a mushroom farm one one site (social housing estate) and entering the planning process at a primary school, which will see the development of 2 polytunnels and an outdoor edible playground.An educational programme linking intensive food production in the polytunnels and composting of the school’s food waste with the curriculum is in development. The aim is to establish an economically sustainable model that can be replicated across, not only schools but other sites such as social housing, new developments etc. where social, environmental and economic benefits can be realised.In addition, MAD LEAP also delivered a range of green skills training and site visits to community groups (East and Central London) and university groups (including Universities of Westminster and Louisiana).

Consultation with stakeholders

We have engaged with stakeholders to deliver the circular food project including:School staff via planning educational sessions and feedback requestsSchool kitchen staff through meetings and demonstrations of food waste recyclingParents via a questionnaire and attendance at parents evenings where we distributed flyers and explained the circular food model in more detailIn addition, we have engaged local residents via green skills training and requests for feedback. We are currently fundraising to extend the scops of this engagement to include door knocking, community events and more green skills training, including accreditation.
