From August 2022 until December 2022, we continued to fundraise for money to help us toset up our van which was being converted into a coffee van in the meantime. We were able toraise significant funds to help us with this from The Good Exchange, Greenham Trust andLocalGiving. We also had donations from the public. From the start of training in January 2023 until July 2023, 8 young people (from 2 differentschools) aged 14+ with severe/specific learning difficulties (SLD) were provided with workexperience and skills required to work within the hospitality industry.
Our main stakeholders were the schools where we trained, their students, parents and staff. Our enterprise would not be possible if they did not have an interest in the benefits that wecould provide to their pupils. Feedback regarding the training was regularly given to keypeople at regular intervals both verbally and in writing and consultations were usually on aweekly or bi-weekly basis because of the nature of what we do. Modifications have needed tobe made to the work experience and training given to particular students upon consultationand the outcomes from that have been good; pupils have been able to complete more workmodules and some have gone on to gain work experience certification or accredited Food &Hygiene that is nationally recognised.Through consultation with parents, we also managed to get one student into further workexperience at a community coffee shop nearby to continue to learn new skills. The training that was provided from January to July 2023 was on a voluntary basis so that theschools could see the benefits that we could provide to their students and staff. What was ofparticular benefit was the rapid increase in confidence and communication skills of thestudents and also the improvement in morale for the staff who were our customers. One of the school’s decided to take Jennie and the coffee van on as a paid tutor starting inJanuary 2024.
