The Community Interest Company has expanded its activities during this calendar year. The Number of venues has increased to approx. 20 and in addition reached more areas of the Borough of Bury and beyond. The marketing activities have expanded. We now have 450 individuals who are texted on a weekly basis as well as periodically with the monthly information. We email a whole range of local service providers both n the voluntary and public sector who care for vulnerable people in the community. We have also emailed directly all the Bury MBC councillors to increase awareness of the CIC, to highlight venues in their constituencies and have received two donations. All councillors will be contacted again in May after the local elections. The social media has been revamped and modernised to include Instagram as well as facebook. Our core objectives remain unchanged because feedback from attendees and venues confirm the principles identified in our survey last year. i.e.Getting out of the house – 26% of respondentsMaking new friends – 23%Meeting people - 19%Improving mental health including combating loneliness – 10%Secondary themes identified by respondents areSocial interactionBeing in a friendly atmosphereGood companyThe replies point to a lot of perhaps obvious issues where older people can become isolated and housebound without the stimulus of sufficient interaction with others. The lunchtime concerts have provided a means for older people to come together in a safe and friendly environment with similar like-minded others. There is a clear benefit for those who might live on their own and who might be more reluctant to leave home. In achieving this the lunchtime concerts have been able, with the help of some modest funding, to provide a significant benefit to a lot of people across the Borough. With some further funding the impetus achieved thus far can be sustained and developed further including bringing this social option to the attention of more people and using an increasing number of venues.
