Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 31 May 2023 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover comprises the invoiced value of goods and services supplied by the company, net of Value Added Tax and trade discounts.

    Other accounting policies

    Basis of accountingThe financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the FRS 102 Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2016).Going ConcernThe financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The company's ongoing activities are dependent upon the continued support of the directors who have undertaken to provide such support for the foreseeable future. If the going concern basis were not appropriate, adjustments would have to be made to reduce the value of assets to their recoverable amount, to provide for any further liabilities that may arise and to reclassify fixed assets as current assets and long term liabilities as current liabilities.

Company activities and impact

We received funding from Art Council England to run a (internal) organisational development project – as empowering the organisation improves its ability to better serve the community. Project aims were; building Amani's resilience & capacity through freelancers, training, expert consultations, purchases of new equipment and developing new strategic partnerships. Key results: Developed 3 internal policies: Health & Safety, Financial Management, Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults, Conducted commissioned portraits, 2 events for African music showcases and an exhibition. Wrote and submitted a few funding applications. Training for Amani DirectorsConsultations with experts on Environmental impact and Marketing/Social media.

Consultation with stakeholders

Amani’s stakeholders are local African artists, including those who already use our services and take parts in our programmes. Other stakeholders are wider local African groups and individuals and partner arts/cultural organisations. We worked with artists, partners & volunteers, including 21 local Congolese volunteer models for portraits we commissioned. Worked with one of our long time partners ArtReach for policy development work and assistance in funding applications.
