Elite Community Sports Coaching CIC, is based in The Hut, Airedale, and aims to harness the power of sport and physical activity to engage and inspire, raise aspirations and positively impact the lives of the people we work with. To achieve this we work with local partners on a range of key outcomes including: enhancing health and wellbeing; skill development, education and training; and creating strong communities. Projects over the past 12 months include evening and weekend youth activities funded through the National Lottery Awards for All, PCC, Leeds Community Foundation and Yorkshire Sport Foundation involving mentoring, upskilling young people and improving health and wellbeing across the city. As a valued partner of Rugby League Cares we deliver on a number of their community programmes engaging with over 300 young people and adults from deprived communities around the North of England aiming to improve mental health, physical activity and employability skills. Our partnership with Wakefield Council continues to grow delivering the Our Family, Our Future programme with partners across Airedale, and HAF programmes in Knottingley working with around 200 children and young people during school holidays. Delivery of our children and family activity tracker programme and women’s projects have been funded through Sport England, both of which engaged with local people, creating opportunities that are not normally available, whilst building towards sustainable delivery through training and mentoring of volunteers.
Through our ongoing work with local authority teams, primary and secondary schools, the Police and Children’s First Hub in addition to consulting with our existing participants (around 120 people), we have identified the need to continue our existing programmes and are able to identify and respond to the emerging needs of the community. We have mechanisms through which we obtain ongoing feedback from participant groups in the design and development phases of our programmes, and continue to modify our approach based upon this. As members of the Airedale Neighborhood Management Committee and Active Airedale group, both of whom facilitate regular consultation with local organisations and residents, we have received ongoing support for our work from people in the community, discussing key themes and outcomes for projects.
