The Friends of Birchwood Forest Park C.I.C. operates a cafe located in Birchwood Forest Park. The building is owned by Warrington Borough Council, but the cafe is solely operated by The Friends Group. It is for the benefit of Birchwood & its environs residents, by providing an affordable service and enhanc-ing the park in general. The cafe provides a meeting place and refreshments. The refreshments are sold at affordable prices and includes cakes baked by volunteers.Whilst the cafe is open, there is no obligation to buy from the cafe in order to use the facilities.Profits made are primarily used to further benefit the park and those who visit it e.g. new benches, wildflowers and free to attend events.Remaining profits are used to support Birchwood residents in other ways, such as helping other good causes in the area.
The company’s stakeholders are the volunteers who work in the cafe and the local residents who use its facilities.All the directors are residents of Birchwood, so they are aware of the challenges faced by the community. Birchwood has a high percentage of social housing and many low-income households. The company are extremely lucky to have 28 committed volunteers, who also all live in Birchwood. They are representative of the community as a whole and are consulted and involved in decisions made by the company.
No remuneration was received.
Donation of £875 Birchwoods Little Lunch Club to cover 6 months room rental.Donation of £600 MacMillan Nurses raised from MacMillan coffee morning.Donation of £200 Mosslands Sheltered accommodation towards residents xmas party and hampers.Donation of £200 St Josephs Family Centre towards food hampers for families in need.Donation of £100 Alzheimers Society in memory of a volunteer who died.Donation of £100 Gorse Covert Pre School to fund materials needed.Donation of £200 Friends of Woolston Park to help with repairs necessary to keep cafe open.Donation of £50 Creating adventures to help with running costs for the choir. All approved by the CIC regulator.
