Our vision at Solidarity farm is to work in partnership with schools and organisations working with vulnerable children and young people, utilising farming practices and the natural environment to create a psychologically safe learning environment where relationships of trust are built, and individual transformation can take place. All vulnerable children and young people who struggle with mainstream education are given the opportunity to belong, progress, and reach their full potential. In 2023 we began work on developing Solidarity Farm and were able to purchase and install a cabin to be the focus of activities, this included connection to services and access work. A composting toilet was also completed alongside secure storage facilities. To support this capital work grant funds have been received from:- The Churchill Fellowship- The CLA- Nineveh Trust- Wingate’s Wind Farm- The National Lottery- UnLtd- Newcastle University- The Barbour FoundationIn the school summer holidays (2023) Solidarity Farm undertook a residential camp for young people eligible for free school meals from the Ashington and Newbiggin areas of Northumberland. Work has also been undertaken on developing new relationships with schools including an offer called Aspire that has been developed.A forest school area has been developed and level three training in forest school leadership undertaken to allow this alternative pedagogy to be offered to learners as part of the farm. A website has been completed and work undertaken on branding and identity that has included the commissioning of a short film by Newcastle University to document Solidarity Farm’s journey.
Solidarity has consulted widely with stakeholders including:Schools, local community groups and local funders to ensure that our offers meet the needs of the local community.Meetings have been held locally, regionally and nationally to learn from best practice and guide the development of projects that benefits those most in need within the local community
