Over this period of time Side By Side Arts offered a total of 13,356 music instrument lessons covering piano, guitar, drums, singing, violin, harp and Northumbrian Small pipes. As we are based in Bensham, Gateshead we have ensured that our lesson prices are of value and affordable to local residents. This feeds into our aims of providing opportunities to people who would not otherwise be able to engage in musical activities. We grew the number of schools that we engage with to 9:8 primary schools and 1 secondary school where we worked to provide music instrument tuition and curriculum. Our community choir has grown from strength to strength with over 40 members attending regularly. The choir held several community performances including a very successful Christmas show in partnership with St Mary's Heritage Centre. We also launched a children's choir and a choir funded by the NHS to research how singing could benefit people living with long term pain.We continued to work with Gateshead Council to support their holiday hunger initiative in partnership with St Aidan's Primary school and held several community singing events asking local experts to share their skills and knowledge.
Our stake holders are residents from the borough of Gateshead and surrounding areas. We are based in Bensham, one of the most deprived areas of Gateshead. We constantly seek feedback from our stakeholders through online polls, face to face conversations and feedback sheets following community events. The main feedback given by our stakeholders are that they want more opportunities for young people in music. Reacting to this we launched our children's choir and have ensured that there are more music camps, from rock star day through to Taylor Swift days, planned throughout school holidays. We have also provided more performance opportunities for our students through termly student concerts.
