Our activities aim to prevent, and alleviate isolation, and loneliness and improve health. Improve better mental health, so that people can engage better in their life. since November 2022 this has benefited the local community. 90% of our activities take place in Wolverhampton. We use this location due to its social deprivation.we noticed people are in social deprivation, wanting to connect more.We decided to create support groups with the view to achieve a positive outcome in people's circumstances. Also, our roles in leading/ running these groups are to facilitate, support, and signpost people if necessary to further help and support. Our participants stated they see us as a first point. That is because we believe in prevention and health promotion.
The UK Commission on Bereavement, National Health Service (NHS), and the City of Wolverhampton Council shows more people are on waiting lists. The organization steps in to bridge the gap, with the help to tackle this crisis, and creates a safe space to better support residents of the community of Wolverhampton through facilitated support group meetings for connection and recovery. This includes a place to talk, this can help people better understand grief, and identify and express feelings associated with grief to reduce the impact of mental health issues. In these support meetings organized by A Gate of Precious Stone organization, people are encouraged and empowered, giving them improved confidence to adopt a positive approach to change in the various areas of their lives holistically. Feedback forms were sent to our participants and word of mouth showed that 90% of our participants valued the activities we delivered. They stated the positive impact of the meeting’s activities and how these had helped them maintain good outcomes for their general health and well-being.We ask everyone attending our meetings to fill in a short questionnaire form about their experiences and their suggestions for future improvement. This has helped us to build up a profile of local community needs and what we can do to meet them more effectively. We undertook a survey of 120 attendees using a questionnaire, we identified that there was a need for programs and events that support emotional and mental health well-being, especially following COVID-19. The result of the survey helped us to create mental and emotional well-being support groups. We also identified from the survey, (about 50 people) expressed interest in support for their Mental health. 40 people are interested in physical health, such as the management of diabetes, other health-related conditions, and weight management. From this, we created a series of events to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes with an emphasis on prevention with healthy eating and general diabetes management to prevent long-term complications. Furthermore, from the survey (about 30 women) expressed interest in life coaching. As a result, the women's empowerment meeting we created to support, inspire, and empower women. The people we have worked with often express gratitude that there are events such as ours in their local community. We believe this enables them to feel proud in their local community because of the benefits of our group activities of looking after the community. The services we offer provide a bridge, and the organization receives social referrals from other agencies/personnel. Also, our signposting approach as we do not take on the role of their healthcare professionals but encourage them to seek medical care. Especially as the group we work with is often hard to reach out for several reasons including social deprivation. The activities in the events/meetings we do, help people to identify their needs and encourage them to reach out for further support from people we sign-post them to. Also, the organization has a social connection with the local area through networking with other businesses and organizations. Word-of-mouth talks from local people, flyers, leaflet drop off, local authorities, and other local voluntary organizations' social media platforms The Mental Hub activities are delivered weekly, aiming to support people's emotional, mental, and social health well-being. The company meets people’s holistic needs, depending on the individual needs of each person. Our participants include men, women, and families. From all backgrounds, genders, faiths, and non-faiths. Activities methods are delivered in hubs - we meet one to one, in small and larger groups meetings. Mental health and well-being group - activities include a Bereavement Hub - in these meetings, we engage and connect with bereaved people and those experiencing grief. Meetings are in smaller groups, one-to-one, and online meetings, they consist of seven weekly structures facilitating in-house counseling styles to support people in their bereavement and grief journey to help them process their losses. To help and support people dealing with loss to find hope for the future. Wellbeing Health Hub – weekly meetings to support people's emotional and mental health – a safe and supportive space for people who feel or have felt overwhelmed, our meetings provide tools for self -management, in a facilitating peer mentoring style setting, with a focus on consistent structured flexible series of 12 weeks of content, which includes groups and individual activities designed to help participants accept themselves for who they are, look after themselves, understand their values and worth, to grow towards a more resilient and hopeful future.
