Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 31 October 2023 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services.

    Other accounting policies

    Functional and presentation currencyThe financial statements are presented in sterling and this is the functional currency of the company.Going concernThe directors believe that the company is well placed to manage its business risks successfully. Accordingly they have a reasonable expectation that the company has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus they continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.Revenue from rendering of servicesRevenue from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. Turnover is only recognised to the extent of recoverable expenses when the outcome of a contract cannot be estimated reliably.Cash and cash equivalentsCash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits with banks and other short-term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less. Bank overdrafts are disclosed separately. For the purpose of the cash flow statement, bank overdrafts form an integral part of the company's cash management and are included as a component of cash and cash equivalents.

Company activities and impact

Babigloo Music for Babies CIC delivers non-verbal, music-led classes. In this financial year we have worked with local authorities BCP Council and Dorset Council and developed into a new geographical area of Ringwood/New Forest working with Ringwood Council in Hampshire. We also worked with voluntary sector providers based in children’s centre provisions, family hubs and libraries. The company began in October 2017.In the accounting period 2022 – 2023 we have received funds from BCP Council, Commission from Bourne Communities Trust, Forest Forge Theatre Company, Dorset Community Fund, BSHARP, Dorset Council, PayPal Donations, Youth music Access Fund, Youth Music Grant, Kathryn Thomas (donation).We have completed a delivery of work for Youth Music under their Catalyser Fund as well as work for Dorset Council under the Dorset Community Fund.We also undertook research and development work with Blandford Camp.The company has benefitted the community by;- Delivering therapeutic classical music programmes with parents and their babies 0-12 months over the course of 8 weeks programmes- We have worked with families who have been referred to us by outreach workers from children’s centres, health visitors, social services, referrals are families experiencing trauma, post-natal depression, anxiety, isolation etc- Providing non-verbal music led sessions provides a safe and calm space for parents who find other baby groups difficult- Working with families with English as a second language. - We welcome both parents and their families/grandparents thereby increasing family bonds.- We have expanded our work to under 4 years in our progression classes in response to parental and funders requests- We employed 3 music leaders and a pool of 8 sessional musicians.- We trained and mentored 2 new music leaders- We have continued to be very active on social media promoting the work of Babigloo, the techniques we use and other providers within the Early Years network

Babigloo Music for Babies has strong ongoing partnerships with the following partnership organisations: - BCP Council- Dorset Early Years- YMCA Children’s Centres, Bournemouth - Youth Music- Youth Music Network- Soundwaves South West Network- MERYC National Level 4 Course Network, Tutors and students - Take Art Early Years- Dorset Community Foundation - Dorset Music Hub- Dorset Rural Music School- Soundstorm Music Hub- Forest Forge Theatre company- Ringwood Town Council- CODA Music Trust- Parents participating in programmes and parents who have completed courses.
