This year Humans Being delivered 23 mental wellbeing courses and 21 sessions for over 300 members of our community, staff and volunteers. We also delivered workshops to other local third-sector organisations, such as 'Confidence to Challenge,' 'Survive and Thrive', and 'Switch on to Women's Safety'. These included: Women Supporting Women: wellbeing sessions for marginalised women; Survive and Thrive: suicide prevention course for front-line volunteers and staff; We Will!: wellbeing skills for marginalised men; Unfolding: a short course for women who have a role supporting other women in their community; 21st Century Man: a city-wide conversation about healthy masculinity; Switch On to Women's Safety: training for staff who want to deliver active bystander workshops for men; Heads, Hearts, Hands: art therapy courses for women with complex mental health needs. We've supported a wide range of people, including voluntary and statutory sector staff, mental health service users, asylum seekers, isolated women and men, and front-line volunteers in some of the most marginalised and under-served communities in Leeds. The courses supported people who are experiencing the cost of living crisis and the huge crisis in mental health services, with record waiting lists in the sector. We worked with partner organisations, new and old, including Women's Lives Leeds, Touchstone, Leeds City Council, TCV Hollybush, the Kentmere Centre, Oblong, Live Well Leeds, BARCA, Leeds GATE, and West Leeds Men's Network. We were very grateful to be awarded new funding by Leeds Community Foundation's Transforming Mental Health Grants.
Humans Being has three primary stakeholders: Members of the communities we serve, particularly people dealing with or at risk of mental ill-health, Leeds voluntary and community groups, statutory health services. In 2023, we consulted with stakeholders by:Working with participants to create new courses;Holding quarterly Members' meetings to discuss inclusion, strategies, needs and delivery, both for current work and in the context of a wider Theory of Change exercise for a multi-year project;Co-delivering mental health sessions;Liaising with CCG and Public Health through local networks like Forum Central; Co-designing courses with community groups;Taking feedback from every course beneficiary;Consulting with beneficiaries on course content before, during and after delivery;Discussions with community organisations to inform programme design.
