Company activities and impact

Doulas Without Borders is a UK wide network of 137 volunteers offering accessible, grassroots services to women and childbearing people experiencing multiple disadvantages and financial hardship during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Our volunteers offer birth and post-natal support to people in financial hardship who are, for example:- Experiencing displacement and are seeking refuge or asylum- Experiencing homelessness- Experiencing/expecting to experience pregnancy or infant loss- Aged under 20, without adequate support- Survivors and victims of trafficking and modern day slaveryThis year we supported 50 birthing women. Our focus is on providing the emotional, physical and informational support which is crucial during pregnancy, birth and early mother/parenthood. A calm, supported mother or parent who is able to bond with their baby moves society one step closer to a resilient, connected and well-adapted next generation.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are:- Volunteer doulas- Birthing women and families facing multiple disadvantages- Health professionals such as midwives, health visitors - referring to usWe carry out consultation with all our stakeholders, specifically focusing on our volunteer doulas and the birthing women we support to identify how they found the support they were provided with, what could be improved and what changes are necessary to improve their experience and the experience of others. We consult with our volunteer doulas to identify areas of need in relation to training and information, we use this to tailor the training and support which we refer and offer to our volunteer doulas. We also consult with people referring into us and the volunteer doulas to identify ways in which we can improve the processes we use. As a result of consultation and feedback we have improved the referral process and at times, limited referrals to ensure we can support those that have been referred to us. We have also altered the training provision for volunteer sand created welcome meetings to connect volunteer doulas.
