COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

EMPATHY ANIMALS CIC

Company Number: 14457550 (England and Wales)

Company activities and impact

The company offers schools a voluntary therapy dog visit to help children with their wellbeing. During the financial year 2022-2023 the company's activities have benefitted the community in the following ways:- Local residents have been able to train as therapy teams with their dogs to volunteer in their local community.- Schools have benefitted from free therapy dog visits for their pupils.- Pilot programme of our Empathy Workshops trialled at Stepney City Farm for 30 children per visit teaching empathy skills through the farm animals.- Tutorials to schools on how to read a dogs body language and practice good etiquette when meeting dogs.- We currently have 6 dogs visiting local schools and have other teams in training.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are the dog owners, children who have the visits, the school as a whole, the teachers, the parents, and the local farm.We have carried out feedback forms with the children, the parents, teachers and the visitors to the farm. We also have Swansea University carrying out an impact study on the therapy dog visits - called Hangout Sessions. Our research has so far shown us the importance of our therapy dog visits for the individual child that is given space to talk and hangout with their furry friend. Parents have consistently fed back that on the hangout days their child is more receptive and excited to come to school, no matter what is happening in their world. We have an annual dog show too that allows us to share our services with the wider community and promote more responsible dog ownership and learnings to children how to safely meet dogs.
