The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

The financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended), the Companies Act 2006, the
Memorandum and Articles of Association, and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The company was set up with entirely charitable purposes and its objects are the advancement of animal welfare and animal rights by campaigning for the total abolition of all animal exploitation including vivisection and the promotion of humane treatment of animals and the replacement of vivisection with non-animal alternatives more relevant to humans.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
Animal Concern engaged with a wide range of campaigns works streams which included public affairs strategies pursuant to fireworks legislation, similarly with sky lanterns and helium balloons, rodenticide usage, and blood sports. Additionally the organisations responded to parliamentary and government consultations processes, tracked legislation, pursued awareness raising through print and broadcast media whilst audience building our social media channels.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The organisation's financial position in line with much of the third sector is challenging. Expenditure has remained consistent whilst income has risen modestly.

Principal funding sources
The largest single source of income for the charity was legacy donations, followed by successful applications to trusts and foundations, then larger individual givers.

Reserves policy
The next 12 months will include streamlining budgetary structures and procedures with a view to ensuring 6 months standing reserves are held at all times over and above anticipated expenditure over each financial year (January to December).

FUTURE PLANS
The next 12 months will represent a period of change. Staff and structural changes will impact charitable activities, income, expenditure, and fundraising. The organisation will step up legacy campaigns, continue to engage trusts an foundations, whilst promoting more active grassroots fundraising.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
Animal Concern Ltd is a company limited by guarantee governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
Aside from implementing a new member recruitment strategy, we will be establishing a subcommittee to actively work on recruitment of new Trustees to the Board.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of
Animal Concern Ltd.

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023 set out on pages four to eleven.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention :

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
